Tamiya 1/14 trucks
« on: December 18, 2021, 04:47:46 pm »

Been spending the last few weeks working on a three part build.  Finished the Tamiya King Hauler, modified by removing sleeper cab, added sound and lights, added remote release on fifth wheel, added a driver...   then started on large lowboy trailer.   this will be able to handle several of my model boats, including the 30" wellcraft scarab in the picture (part three of the initial build)...  I also have a PBR, a 41' UTB and a 22" lobster boat in appropriate scale that will all have transportation cradles made so they can sit on the trailer.

let me know what you think of the GT Power sound system.  my King Hauler has the Lesu sound and lights, but i am trying to decide if i want to make a DIY or use the GT Power for the K100

Must admit, the GT Power unit is spot on, the ability to use the handset or the app to control what lights are on or off is great.

I have two GT Power System, one is a plain lorry sound and lights and one that I think is advertised as the Truck Container Sound and Light system.  personally I wouldn't buy the second one if it was the only unit on the market.  Didn't work, went back to supplier who agreed it didn't work, they sent it to Perkins who said it did work, when it still didn't, and then had the nerve to try and charge me for the postage......no chance.  I did get it working by joining two outputs together but never did get the vibration motor working.   IMHO biggest waste of money for that particular unit.Perkins did try and blame me for using the wrong size battery and overcooking it, until I pointed out that their specification stated the voltage of the battery required and they even supplied the lead (lipo) for same.  i.e.can't connect a two cell to a three cell plug!!!!

I have the lesu sound and lights set for the king hauler "w900" truck, but i am dealing with a very tiny amount of space in the single axle COE...  i think i am only going to be able to fit a DIY version.  I still have a globe liner waiting to be built, so i might try the GT Power in it.

Two options for you, both good sound output and the Ess dual speaker unit comes with usb stick so you can upload any engine noise you can download, this is is going in one of my lifeboats but sounds well in a truck also.  The Trasped unit is more for cars/suv type vehicles, both from Bangood and took just over a week to be delivered.

I'd like to install sound at some point in my Unimog. Does that unit have any pre-installed sounds or are they readily available to download?

I'd want engine start up then proportional to speed.

Both units have pre installed sound, the Ess unit has big Diesel engine but you can download various onto this.

I have the Sense ESS one in a boat, and have seen the Sense ESS dual...  the ESS one is too big, and the dual is larger than the one.  I will have to investigate the Trasped...

In the Kenworth k100, there really is very little space inside or underneath the cab to hide things.  the receiver is in one gas tank, a 2000mah battery is in the other.

there is only about 15mm x 45mm x 45mm behind each seat inside the cab, and 55mm x 70mm x 15mm under the doghouse above the motor and servos.  things will need to be thin to fit.

the DIY "thing" i am looking into is this one:
https://github.com/TheDIYGuy999/Rc_Engine_Sound_ESP32

it is both sound and lights, and versions of it can be built as small as a stick of gum (plus the speaker)
