Shame. They produced good quality, affordable engines. I always considered them underpriced for what you got.

I agree this is sad news, and I wish Robert Graham well in any new enterprise he may undertake, or--more likely- his retirement. He made a great product and I was lucky to place an order a week before he closed shop. I am looking forward to assembling my 2nd TVR1ABB, which may be one of the last ones he sold.

Does anyone know when Graham started making the TVR1A?

Another one ! {:-{
It is a pitty that such craftsman disappears. It allowed many people to get access to the steam hobby at a fair cost !
I am afraid that we will be left with Chinese stuff ! Not for me ! >>:-(
Bye  !

Hullo KBIO........I agree, any manufacturer of steam engine/components ceasing production is a loss to our hobby

However comparing this loss to alternate Chinese manufacturers range of a complete product, is I suggest unfair

Have you not used steam components in your builds from Chinese supply?

Sorry Derek, it is a good comparison. Product cost is always dependent on manufacturing location. Immediately post war (WW2 that is) I can remember "Cheap Japanese tat" or wrongly noted as "Made in Hong Kong", even they now farm manufacturing out to more economical production sites. CNC certainly brought the labour intensive manufacturing costs down - - - for volume production but lets face it, our toy steam engines etc. will never challenge production runs like the VW Beetle.
  Consumer markets are more fickle now than ever before and the bottom line will always win. Martins venture into the nostalgic are a classic example, how many of the advertisers are still in business and how would they cope with T'internet? The road to hell is paved with good intention but doesn't put bread on the table.
