Reckon you'd need to go on a diet Nick - those look about size 10 (female).

A lot of the current comments describing what we would look like are as follows:
Thunderbirds are go!
Captain Blue from Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons
James Bond Villain’s Henchmen!

Even some of the skinniest lads would struggle wearing them!

Nick,
The woolly pully was greeted with dismay in the seventies, but the hairy blue was not mourned. Change - few welcome it.
The thing that reall urks me is that it's all driven by reducing costs. The material and tailoring will probably be worse than that currently experienced.

But as always - If you can't take a joke ...

Considering that in reality there isn’t much wrong with the current uniform. The trousers could be made from a material that isn’t so itchy and smell of wet dog when they get damp! The camo kit is comfortable and lightweight whilst the number 2 blues can be a pain to iron but I’ve been doing it for 19 years so it doesn’t bother me. What does is wearing something that looks like it’s been designed by a committee that had a list of requests and ignored them! Almost everyone on my squadron's first response was *******$$$$ no way! Just imagine the expletives! ok2

I think if they enforce it the PVR rate (resignations) would skyrocket- hopefully they will see the light and redesign it so we don’t look like ‘space command’ or as I’ve just heard on a RAF FB group- British Gas Boiler inspectors/fitters! :D

Cost analysis & other big words, >>:-(  however do they mention the Country of manufacture for the proposed new Service Uniforms?.......

The reason I ask, our Australian Defence Personal [all 3 Services] have all footwear manufactured by an Australian registered Company, but with actual overseas manufacture

The new uniform proposal looks like standard industrial work wear.
Is this to replace working dress. Boots, lightweight trousers, shirt, wooly pully.
I can see one advantage. Only one layer is showing for inspection purposes, therefore only one layer to bull. On the downside, those types of zip pocket would mean that you cannot carry anything, other than your ID card, without it showing. The SWO might be unhappy about that.

Has anything been said about the other forms of dress, like barrack dress (in the army this was barrack dress shoes, barrack dress trousers, number two shirt (sleeves rolled up in the summer and no tie), wooly pully, tie. Is that being replaced?

For the MOD one layer means less kit to procure. It will probably all come out of one factory in China. Fine, unless there is some falling out.

Hi, my time goes back to 1957 and I would have thought the serge material (wet dog) would have gone by now.

I used to have a 'best blue' T63 uniform although I was in for just 4 years.
I connived to get a free issue of one, all I had to do was volunteer for a Guard of Honour for an AOC inspection.  To be honest that was a better choice than going on the main parade!
My T63 was made of barathea and tailored to fit and very comfortable and cool it was too.  We never got issued with the wully pully must have been after my time (1961).

I was quite handy with the rifle and had my crossed rifles badge for Marksman, you got 6 old pence a day for that and my fist of lightning being on radar and an upside down single chevron (J/T).  Never saw anyone else with these badges.

I found out if hostilities broke out I had to carry the Bren gun, quite heavy!  I was also Captain of the rifle shooting team and I could take out anything with a Bren gun and still have most of my ammo left.

Apart from the occasional moment I enjoyed my 4 years a lot, almost 18 months of it was spent on courses at RAF Yatesbury, now mercifully ploughed under.  But for work experience the radar was installed in old Lancaster bombers with the wings sawn off, so I can appreciate the effort needed when a flying crew had to bail out, really dodgy.

Dodes- the term we are now all called is Aviator because supposedly it’s gender neutral. We’ve tried explaining that a female aviator is an Aviatrix but they seem to be ignoring this fact.

Geoff, yes even if I was a bit thinner it would still look horrible. We’ve just had a telling off from the SWO about the leaking of the images to the press! They seem to think it was an aircraft technician who did it! It’s not like we have previous for this sort of thing! {-)
