Ideas welcome
« on: March 22, 2022, 09:50:24 pm »

Hi crew I have a small issue that needs the crews help my model has a lift off superstructure that I would like use a power connector/ socket to join them  then unplug when lifting of the superstructure,  previously I have used a multi plug set up which was a bit fiddle to dis connect,  not been good at all things electrical can I use just a positive and negative power supply and wire into to allow use of the functions involved,  power is need for guns to rotate, navigation lights ,signal lights , flag up down the mast, interior lights, signal light, smoke stack and fan in funnel,.So my question is can I use positive and negative plug or do I go back to a multi plug set up.Any and all help much appreciated tassie48

It sounds like you need to switch these functions on and off, such as the turret rotation etc. Therefore just a pos and neg feed wont do the job, unless you install the switchers that control this lot in the superstructure as well. This would leave the servo leads to be connected to any switches in the superstructure. Unless you also fit a secondary receiver in the superstructure to run the extra functions. Then you would only need a power supply into the superstructure to run everything, Your pos and neg connection that you suggested. Unless (!) you fit a lightweight battery low in the superstructure to run all the ancillary functions. Then the entire superstructure is self contained and can be worked on easily on the bench.
A bit bold but if the model is big enough I don't really see an issue with this option.
As far as cable and plug looms as an option, I always make sure there is enough cable length dangling about, where I can place the superstructure on the ground alongside the superstructure. With a long enough lead length that you can plug in a multiplug without balancing a superstructure across the model! I have fitted out two of the Graupner Yamato models in this way, with one big multiplug supplying everything.

Hi Tassie 48

Computer LAN cable connectors have eight connections and if you cutoff the locking clip work very well.

If it’s just servos and lighting(led) computer ribbon cable would do. The plugs and sockets don’t need soldering as plug and socket are in two parts for clamping down on the cable, other end is easily split for soldering . Use this for my tanks, let’s me split hull , deck and turret for easy maintenance.

Don't matter a fig what fancy connectors you use. Corrosion protection is far more important.  O0
