What's Happened to All the Fairey Builds?
« on: July 14, 2022, 04:11:48 pm »

As per the title. During the lockdown and after there were quite a number going on from the big 47" versions down through the smaller sizes.

I know Captain Podge has finished his but what about the others?

I know some folks, like me, don't do much building during the summer months. Infact, I haven't done much model boat wise for quite a few months now, apart from producing some drawings for a non-Fairey project.

Trouble is, that when I do start again, I will feel like a beginner again!   :-)

Hi Chris

I am Fairey-ing away with a Spearfish, made a new stand, removed the unfinished twin motor and rudder setup after removing the top.
What a job that was, silicon was a nightmare to get off !!!

About a kilo of bog holding motor mounts, drive line and rudders in !!!

I was given an old vacuum former, so just had my first crack at that.

Nice pair of restyled air scoops for the Spearfish, life canister for my fishing boat and a dish radar dome.

if you require a winter build place, we have a winter play ground for ewe in Tasmania (14C on a warm day) !!!

Hi Harry

Good to hear that you are making progress on a Spearfish, got one at last eh? A vacuum former is a useful bit of kit.

Trouble here, is that apart from doing other summery things, it's too hot for model building! I could do some painting in the garage though, once I've made some room.

It’s either too hot in our sheds or too cold and damp! I haven’t done much for a long time as post lockdown I have too many other commitments at the moment. Enjoy reading the few threads here that are busy!

Guilty here too of not having done anything with any of my 'projects' for far too long   {:-{

Nicer weather calls for work on the van conversion instead, especially as we're working out in the street outside the house and can't get it indoors.

I dare say it will be another few months before I start looking at picking up again, where I left off.

.... and it's the same for me too. Bought all the necessaries for switching to Lipo, balance charged the batteries, followed by the storage charge. Nothing done towards conversion of the boat itself - too much going on elsewhere but no hurry anyway - the lake is weeded up  >:-o

Hi All

What Summer, it's 12C down under !!!

Made two sets of larger air scoops. one lot .5mm and .75mm.

The .75mm turned out a lot stronger.

Also a radar dome, tiller arm and rudder.

That dam E Bay again, bought four boats in one lot !!!

Two runners ( Billings Slo- Mo-Shun 4 and an Aero-nauts Spitfire) and two others.

I have no idea what the others are, but, too good a deal to miss.

The handbrake may kill me !!!!!!!!!!!

A nice little haul there Harry.

Looks like your vacuum former is working well and you've got the hang of it. I'm sure you'll find plenty of bits to form as time goes on.

The Slo Mo Shun and Spitfire are really nice. Looking forward to seeing those blasting around the canal in a future Tas Rc video.
