Dumas Lackawanna
« on: July 26, 2022, 08:22:28 am »

Hi MBM,

Would like to ask if any members have built the Dumas Lackawanna: https://www.dumasproducts.com/?product=the-lackawanna-tug-kit-1251
I've tried the site search but no hits were found up until now.

I'd be interested in opinions on the kit and Dumas models in general as I look to begin my second build.

Cheers,
Phil

Hi Phil22

The RC Groups forum may help you, as it is American based.

One of our club members here has one built, what would you like to know?  AFAIK it was not a difficult build, sails very well but is not an accurate model of the real Lackawanna.

Hi All,

Thank you so much Harry, NickelBelter and Jaymac for your kind replies.
The build diary is very thorough and made for a good read, thanks for linking.

@NickelBelter,
I appreciate your offer. I'd like to ask after the quality of the components found in the kit and clarity/quality of the build instructions. I'm still new to the hobby so the clearer the better ; )

Cheers!

I'll ask on the club email network.   :-))   Instructions wise, that build thread is probably all you need to assemble the kit!

In terms of Dumas kits in general, the modern ones with vacformed or planked hulls are usually very good kits for the beginner.  Lots of club members own a 'Carol Moran', the small one, and for such a small model it sails very well.
