Model boats and writing stories
« on: August 12, 2022, 12:55:20 am »

I would like to write stories, even do a graphic novel, about "the real ones" of my rubber band powered pool subs and the seaport and undersea colonies they run a route between. Guess it would be an Alternate History kind of thing. Also can imagine doing drawings, paintings, of scenes with them in their environments with their people. My health isn't going to allow that right now. Just finishing the models is enough of a struggle.
But even though a struggle, making progress on the projects brings joy and fulfillment, so I continue.
There is a sci-fi story I play at writing and one novel at a time is quite enough, thank you.
 :-)
Big one, to be named PRS-2, is about 35 inches, 89cm, long without its 2 propellors. Will have 2 of the same propellor PRS-1 has one of.
PRS-1 is about 25.5 inches, 65cm long, including propellor.

And no, there won't be a 3-propellor PRS-3!
But ...There is intended to be a 3 foot long single-propellor PRS-3.

And ...Plans (well, mostly; designs are finalized during construction) are made for a 39 inch long, 1meter, mostly-1/72 scale, Jules Verne Nautilus.(that being Verne's Nautilus, not the popular one done by some cartoon company in California)

Where I sit at this computer desk looking up at them above me on the wall it is easy to imagine PRS-1 and PRS-2 as actual vessels out there underway and doing their thing ...

Hi Scott

Writing an acceptable and plausible plot is very difficult so good luck with the writing.  I read and use ebooks and audiobooks a lot and within the first minute or two I know whether or not I shall carry on reading.

Have you read any of the Charles Stross books, well crafted and almost unputdownable.  Very clever extension of the What if kind of fiction.  You might try the John Birmingham Axis trilogy Starts with Weapons of Choice.

The only fiction I manage is explaining the several Paypal entries on our Bank statements.
Regards
Roy

No, I haven't. I've basically stopped reading novels because of how much the ME/CFS has reduced my energy levels over the last 15 years.Have stopped doing a lot of other things too.
But ...
Sometime during the night ...
An idea for how to begin a story came and I got 5 sentences written.  Plus a few notes made.

Creative writers group meets Saturday morning, tomorrow, so I'll run it by them and see what they think.
