3 amp block connector with "male" prongs
« on: March 04, 2023, 01:54:16 pm »

I wonder if any member can help, I need to have a row of 3 amp block connectors joined by pushing together, I have seen block connectors fitted with “prongs” so you can have a male/female push connection. Problem being, I have no idea where you can purchase these or even the correct terminology for block connectors with sticking out bits.?

Many thanks for your help, it was simple once you provided the “proper description” rather than a pronged block connector. So a large Bravo Zulu to all.

What is the purpose of these as logically there is still only one in and one out connection as the two in the middle are used to connect to each other, they just make the block wider - acting as a secure plug socket ?

I use them as connectors for my chargers. The charger lead has a twin female block on the end and I then have a variety of male plug in connectors terminating in suitable plugs to the various sockets on my models plus crocodile clips and also spade connectors for charging SLA batteries.

I sometimes use them for battery terminators in the model as well.

Are these just 2 terminal blocks with a some bits of rod between them for each terminal or am I missing something?

As per my earlier link:

https://www.componentshop.co.uk/pluggable-12-way-10a-screw-terminal-block.html.html

the outer terminals have the usual screws but on the inside the screw is removed on one side and there is a sprung prong fixed in the other. It is a very secure connection but best for occasional use due to the reliance of the cable entry relying on pressure of the screw to hold the wire in place.

They are the for connecting between two section of a water tight cylinder in a submarine, as you need to slide the two parts of the tech rack from opposite ends of the tube. These are an easy solution to distributing the power between the two sections.

Check out the HXT or EC connectors instead of these ones. Basically shielded and polarised connectors that slide together to connect. There are various sized depending on the current expectred to be carries so the HXT3 or EC3 would suit you. Much better than the old fashioned and probably obsolete block connectors. The wires are soldered into the connectors and don't rely on clamping them in place with a screw where any dampness inside the submarine will cause corrosion and bad connections. The HXT and EC conncetors are gold plated so won't corrode.

Thank you, Jim, the problem is there are at least 10 wires that need connecting and having looked at the polarised connectors which are fine for standard power but when you have sevrvo tri wires things start to get crowded.

Model aircraft often use the green Multiplex connectors for push on wings. These have 6 terminals and relatively small so if you use two then this gives a positive and negative and 10 signal connectors for servos. Much smaller than the old modified chocolate block connectors.

Hi Jim
Thanks for the heads-up, I have had a look at the Multiplex connectors, and you are absolutely right. I have ordered a couple of sets for my next build.
