How do dispense from a builder's tube of goo ....
« on: March 25, 2023, 02:37:22 pm »

Question: Can you dispense small amounts from a builder's tube grab adhesive to a small tub ... and keep it 'fresh'?

Martin, My experience with this type of material is once the air has got at it, that is it. it is on its way to cureland. nemesis

I have had the Gorilla glue that comes in squeezy bottles, with a twist lid, like a lot of PVA glue comes in. I have used a bottle for a month or so on a long term project. However, after returning to the bottle after a long while the glue had gone off/cured.

I think you could put it in the pill bottle for small jobs. Leaving it in the builder's tube and sealing it after each use with cling film (nozzle off, cling film mouth, wash nozzle) would probably work OK as it is only the open end that will cure, and that would be very slowly. I think this type of glue reacts with moisture.

when the end is exposed to the air the end cures and this cured bit creeps down the nozzle until it creeps into the main tube, so if you replace the nozzle with a fresh one every so often, it may let the rest of the tube last longer since the stuff exposed to the air is pushed into the nozzle then that cures like the previous nozzle.

For most applications I don't use the nozzle but apply gthe adhesive directly from the small hole in the top of the cartridge! As you can screw/unscrew the nozzle a plastic sandwich bag can be screwed between the cartridge and its nozzle when not in use. It keeps for quite a long time this way.

I just found this video on YT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_B2UfN8-G8

Although it is mostly about caulk tubes, the last one demonstrated was an adhesive.
There are products and techniques available to save tubes going off, and bringing them back to life, even those assumed to be very dead.
