Force 21 rear exhaust pull start glow marine engine
« on: August 17, 2023, 05:56:35 pm »

Could not find an IC power section so posted here...

Has anyone recently purchased a Force 21 rear exhaust pull start marine glow engine ?

If so, was there an engine instruction sheet as well as a parts exploded view sheet in the box ?

If so, please, could you scan the operation sheet and post it here, or photo copy and possibly email it to me please.

Mine did not have the instruction sheet, info needed about engine, fuel, glow plug and running in please.

Thanks in advance,

rich

If you get no joy on MBM re Force 21 engines try searching on RC nitro buggy racing sites, there’ll be a load of Info for  running and tuning ic engines…I think it was force engines used on RTR 1/8 th Hobao buggies back in the day.

Fuel - 10-20% nitro, with at least 16% oil, preferably with a small content of castor. I recommend Duraglo 20

Glow plug - OS No8 or O’donnell 99 (rare as hens teeth)

Running in (these instructions are from Mauro for use on CMB engines but will apply to any ABC engine):

These were the instructions given to me by Camillo and Mauro Braghieri from CMB.
Running in. This is explaining the technique that I used for the last 30 years of being a works CMB driver.
(The boats I use are Endurance with 30 minute fuel tanks or Offshore which have 15 minute tanks)
I have seen CMB use this method on all ABC motors from 3.5cc to the 35cc when it was ABC motor.
With the Engine in the boat with a long pipe setting and one size smaller prop than you would race with.
Standard Fuel you intend to use and slightly richer main needle.
The slow running needle is pre-set by CMB for a good starting point so I leave it alone.
At the lake it should not be freezing cold it is then necessary to reduce water flow to get enough heat but in freezing water and air it is very hard to get enough heat for a good run in.
I remove plug open carb and flush through fuel covering carb with finger until fuel is coming out top of motor. Then close throttle and with no finger on carb clear some excess fuel out spinning over motor. Then put in plug loose and start motor and tighten plug. the engine should be rich enough that if you open carb the revs increase but does not over rev and runs very rich.
Launch boat with radio needle leaned a little and once running richen needle back up.
I then run 5 minutes or so at slow to medium speed opening throttle to clear motor occasionally
After 5 minutes or so I then while fully rich open throttle and do one straight at a higher speed shutting down for the turn to let engine cool back down. Then back down the straight slow again turn and open up for another straight at higher speed shutting down for the turn again.
5 minutes of this then I open for the straight and a turn and then close down again a few minutes of this and then a whole lap at the higher speed still rich then close down again.
After around 15 minutes or so running then lean motor off and do 1 or 2 laps and again slow back down and keep doing that for 5 minutes.
Then I normally put my standard prop on and run with the long pipe a few laps each time and then slowing back down t reduce heat again. After that its time to shorten pipe and get the motor at racing speed but still on the rich side being careful not to over lean or over heat the motor. I then if necessary, change the slow running needle to get good throttling.
This technique normally gives a good long-lasting piston and liner fit.

Alternatively you can use my method, which is to wind the needles out so the engine will ONLY JUST run - I’m talking so incredibly rich that it’ll die from oxygen starvation if you open the throttle and so rich that you can see fuel pouring out the exhaust. Run the engine for several minutes at a time on the stand, monitor the engine temperature often, you should be able to hold onto the engine and pipe while it’s running comfortably. This method can be a little more difficult to perfect, but the best engine I have (a CMB 45 V5) was run in using this method.

If you have any further questions I’d be more than happy to send you my phone number

Further to the above, this video was from back when I ran in a Novarossi Mito 3.5 using the bench method I described previously

I’m sure it’s online somewhere, but it’s the same inside as pretty much every other two stroke glow motor there is :-))

"Running in"? Now that's a term that seems to have dropped into obscurity, to quote Mick Kane "Not  lot of people know that"  O0

How many pints of fuel did we use on Diesels to achieve this?
