I want to record my thanks to Dave_S and Circlip for their time and effort spent in obtaining and providing a copy of the IJN Kirisame plan for me, and for my grandson. A fine example of the great support that members of this hobby provide.

You're more than welcome, we're all members of the modelling family (or all infected by the same madness!)

Happy New Year to you.

Dave_S,You were kind enough to provide a copy of this plan at no cost and requested some follow-up of the build. Progress has been very intermittent, in other words, slow. Grandsons can be easily distracted these days by things like 3D printers.Anyway, he made good progress this past weekend on the hull, as you can see. To be fair he has spent some time producing a 3D print of a gun turret and a part of the bridge.ROy

Hi,
I'm so sorry to interrupt you on this topic.
But I have gotten confused which ship you are building since I feel something contradictory from the names you have used. {:-{

IJN Kirishima (as in the title)----was a battleship of our old navy(IJN)
IJN Kirisame---------------------did not exist in the old(IJN)navy
JS  Kirisame----------------------now in service in JMSDF as DD-104   a kind of destroyer
IJN Kirsame--------------------I haven't heard about such name so far of both IJN and JMSDF
Pic attached; IJN Kirishima ---the first BB built in Japan
Judging from the model shape in your pic, you may be building JS Kirisame,???  not IJN Kirishima....battle ship {:-{

This model is based on the Special Type Destroyers built by the Japanese Navy before WW2. It is being built to the plan and construction article by Glynn Guest which was published in the Model Boats magazine in February 2015.

I'm afraid to say, but I could not find IJN Kirisame except JS KirisameDD-104 now in service.
Anyway, IJN Kirishima in your title seems strange for me.... IJN Kirishima is a BB and not a destroyer that you are building...
I'll research more about "IJN Kirisame".

According to my provisional check, Kirisame is the very first given to DD-104 now in service through all Japanese naval vessels. {:-{ (from wikipedia)

I think you are looking too deeply into the build and name, The Build as already mentioned is based off the plan by Glynn Guest, names given to models by Glynn and other plan contributors are not necessarily actually based on an actual ship but an interpretation as stated these are loosely based on vessels of that time. The post Title could be confusing as the plan name is Kirisame and not Kirishima.

Possibly based on the Fubuki Class

Although have noticed, the Plan says " Kirsame ", and the article is headed " Kirisame" .

Assume this was a printing error , but could not say which is correct, Maybe GG might be able to shed some light on this ?.

The Build looks good and will be nice to see it on the water, with which ever of the 3 names is chosen  %%

Oh dear.....
Much confusion which could have been sorted if the original construction article had been read first and the original poster had not changed the name and clashed with a real vessel.
This model was based on the Japanese "Super Destroyers" built prior to WW2 and not on a specific vessel.  I did however want to give it a name and, using an English-Japanese on-line translator, came up with Kirisame.  This followed the Japanese practice of naming destroyers after metrological and weather effects.  Kirisame had not been used by the Japanese Navy, was a weather effect and seemed very appropriate for a model to be sailed in British weather!  This was explained in the construction article.
Yes, the name is misspelled on the plan sheet.

FYI,
The Yukikaze, a particularly notable Japanese destroyer of World War II.
Japanese destroyers of World War II included some of the most formidable destroyers (駆逐艦, kuchikukan) of their day. This came as a surprise to the Allies, who had generally underestimated Japanese technical capabilities. The Japanese had reassessed their naval needs in the mid-1920s and, placing an emphasis on ship and weapons technology and night-fighting expertise, developed a completely new destroyer design. Subsequent development from one destroyer class to the next was not, however, a smooth progression. Aside from the usual changes arising from experience, serious design faults also came to light and naval treaties imposed restrictions. As a result, the early "Special Type" destroyers required significant changes and the specifications of subsequent classes was reduced in one way or another. Naval treaties were later abrogated in 1937 and so destroyer development continued without regard to limits.

Thank you for a nice pic of our IJN Yukikaze which I ever built at 1/100 so many years ago. :-)) :-)) :-))

I used to learn our own old navy and its naval vessels including their history containing what you mentioned above so much by many books, magazines and professional information partly for the sake of building RC model warships when I was young. O0
From this background, I just felt and noticed something strange "IJN Kirisame"?....while IJN Kirishima as in the title must be a BB {-)
 That's all for the background to have commented O0 O0   Please build a nice IJN destroyer which was once a super type of destroyer literally in those days. O0 :-))   I will be soooo glad if I may be able to see it sail on the water by a video on here. :-)) :-)) :-))
