RC Tank
« on: October 21, 2023, 01:04:32 pm »

After a trip to Bovington Tank Museum's "Tiger Day" with a Group of like minded Old Duffers I decided to purchase a Heng Long RC Sherman Tank to add to the many RC Boats and other Shelf Queens in the Shed.
Trawling the internet for a good price ( this can vary greatly by supplier and the materials used for Gearbox Sprocket Drives and tracks) a purchase was made and the Tank received shortly after.
Moulding and details are very good out of the box but also somewhat toy like which can be much improved by weathering and further additions.
All operating functions are excellent for the price paid but i decided to  remove the standard BB firing mechanism  (6 mm Air Soft pellets scattered around the garden would not have reflected well with my wife) in favour of a replacement modification of a Flash and Smoke unit for the Barrel.  After much head scratching , repositioning of various internal components and the usual patience to undertake such things ( no Instructions Supplied) the function operates as it should.
All in all a neat model though I'm now pondering on what to start next with the nights drawing in and the days getting colder.

Kind regards
Terry H

Hi Terry,

Thanks for nice pics of M4 Sherman tank shared with us. !! O0 :-))
You did a very good job on the tank, especially the tank crew and various items on the engine grille, which are
all well done, so realistic !!   :-)) :-)) :-))
I also like M4 Sherman tank as a RCed model.  :-)) :}

If you want an idea for a new project, this is one I've just finished.  Start off with one of these:

And modify it into one of these:

Or plenty on Ebay but usually more expensive.

A tank option to your question is to do an oppo for your Sherman such as a Panzer IV or maybe a Panther!

How about outing with the nice RC tank for testing as a RC tank since you have made the best efforts to modify it for
better tank.

The pics below were my Henglong M1A2 Abrams tank under test by running on various terrains for 3.7km (2.3miles) like a real Abrams ? {-) {-)   %% %%  I spent two packs of 5000mAh lipos for the test.
My tank is equipeed with a V meter as seen in the last pic for a long distant run.

The Landing craft certainly gives pause for thought.
A pity its not sold as a kit ,though there's sufficient photographs and dimensions on the model advert to start some serious scratch building. :-))

I found a kit on Aliexpress https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004675594775.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.245.6d431802x4LhO7 and the quality seems to be find, will start working on it when I'm done with my 1:20 PT109

An equally appropriate "accessory" for your Sherman would be the M26 recovery vehicle.  A.K.A. - the Dragon Wagon.
