SLEC kits
« on: March 11, 2024, 09:57:53 am »

I notice SLEC produce a number of retro kits, many based on the old Aerokits models.  Has anyone built any of these and is anyone able to compare them with the Aerokits versions from back in the day?

I think SLEC bought up the Vintage Model Boat company..... those kit had a good reputation.
The original SLEC kits, Arrow, Javlin, Sportsman are still good soldi kits too,

Slightly off topic but the SLEC Fairey Huntsman, Swordsman and Huntress kits designed by Dave Milbourn are just excellent and go together superbly as long as you follow the instructions.

Sorry to contradict you, but the Arrow, Javelin, etc. were originally Lesro kits. I have a SLEC Arrow half way through building, it has been going together very well so far.

There was an article in model boats a few years ago in which Dave wrote about some of these kits, and as he and I had been chatting about them, and I had built one of the first kits, they do need (as did the original) fettling, as Dave mentioned in the article
Well worth having a go though
Just as a side, when the vintage model boat company  re issued the models, it was aimed (as the the original) for the youth, but at all the shows Ivan (who ran it at the time) sold nearly all the kits to .....how do I put this, to us youth (who maybe not that youthful).
For me the Wavemaster will always be the one
