Handed props, 4ba, 50 or 55mm
« on: December 05, 2023, 05:56:59 am »

Wanted
Have an old mfa spearfish with twin props.
Been trying to source 2 new props for her after 1 was lost in the lake.
Running 2 x 850 motors with 2 escs.
It had originally 2 x red handed props, 4ba, 50 or 55mm.
Can find loads of lh ones but no rh ones. Any one got any or know a source???

Ps tried American sites, but postage prohibitive, and don't want brass ones from prop shop yet!

I had no luck finding 4ba props at all, ended up buying the correct size plain stainless shaft and getting someone to turn the end down to 4mm so I could thread it myself

4BA shafts/props haven't been available for a long time, Either convert to 4mm or cannibalise old boats!

hi there

one alternative would be to purchase a 4BA second tap or plug tap and re-thread the brass prop bush.  Admittedly there will be a slight difference between pitch and thread, however, there will be sufficient thread to re-attach it to a 4BA shaft pretty securely.   If you really want belt and braces, you could put a 4BA lock nut on before the prop.

Try giving Simon Higgins of Prop Shop an email, he has excellent props and will tap them to the size you want. I emailed him at the weekend and a pair of handed props are due to arrive tomorrow.

Here are the matching pair of excellent props that were tapped as requested and delivered very quickly by Simon Higgins of PropShop, they are 80mm Steam Props so much steeper pitch than the standard props they are replacing
