Just spent an hour here on mayhem brilliant to see it's still alive alive'o thought with Facebook,  Instagram etc these days people would have moved on but no !!! Great to see

I find a forum a much more friendly environment, with people you get to know to some extent. Facebook is a huge crowd jostling for attention. It has its uses, but I prefer it here.

I think we are singled out as the last generation able to to string words together to form a sentance that others might want to read.

On texting which I also have a lack of appreciation for I like the abreviation TLDR.  (Too long didnt read)  Note the 2 'O's in too, seems to one of the casualties of modern English.

I had a look at the Facebook page on the computer of someone who is a member. I really cannot see the attraction. There is no indexing and hence everything is effectively lost very quickly.

I would conclude Facebook is ok for pictures & not much else.

I have a nasty feeling Model Boats is going (has gone) the same way. More pictures, bigger margins, less text. I know that I am told it is what sells but............

Facebook and other social media sites work very well on smartphones with their dedicated apps,  unlike forums which tend to be hard to read on a small screen. Also much easier to upload content like pictures and other media, and of course the apps are designed to give dopamine hits to users via feedback, thumbs-up etc. 

Ultimately people want what they want, and it’s their choices that influence what survives and which falls by the wayside.

Facebook is a stream of consciousness and, as mentioned above, is very bad at archiving unless you are happy to scroll at length to find that message /image etc from a year ago. That or by chance FB decides to pop the message up as a memory saving you that time.

Exactly right. As a tool for reference it's useless.

It's got it's place for questions and those that want to keep posting multiple pictures of their boats but that's about it.
