HFM Deep Dive VI
« on: May 04, 2024, 06:40:27 pm »

Hi, I have just started to build this , only had it over 10 years !!, unfortunately some of the bits are missing and the original instructions do not list sizes.
I am wondering if any has one of these and could give me the diameter of the top and bottom tubing holding the rudder in place. I have guessed it at about 7-8mm.

Take it back, all the sizes are at the very end of the instructions  :} .  5/16th.. for the tubing I need so 7.95 mm according to google, have to see if 7mm will work as that is all I have.

Inside or outside? I’ve plenty of 5/16” OD if you need a bit

Hi Phil
Well think it has matured enough to start building it, Been doing bits after my Triple bye pass !!

Andyn, thanks, it is outside but have managed to find some plastic tubing and the use an old arrow I just happened to have lying around like you do which fitted very nicely to give strength, but thanks for the offer.

One thing to be mindful of with this model is watertight box, which is prone to issues with leaks.

I've seen various mods from beefing up the supplied item to fitting a cylinder or using one of the clamshell type waterproof diving boxes, if you can source one of suitable dimensions. Lomo is one manufacturer e.g. https://www.lomo.co.uk/products/drybox-17-mini-size-dry-box-transparent-lid/

The other issue IIRC was steel screws used to fasten parts together rusting, so better to use brass or stainless items.

Thanks, a good link.
I will try to build it wit the box first and see how it goes, as a dynamic dive and hope it will work. Also only using Stainless steel & Brass screws, nuts and bolts.

Pure coincidence, but I happen to have a copy of the Model Boats magazine with a four page review of the HFM Deep Dive right in front of me. If you are interested I could scan it for you.

Hi, Thank you for the offer but I do have that review as well as another one , also now a couple of build pictures I found on the internet not to mention a few from various shows knowing that at some point in time it would be my intention to actually build it.
But thanks anyway.

Just found the brass rod for the dive planes , stored with the Graupner Shark, another restoration build to do.
