Spent three weeks cycling in the Netherlands last year. Would love to make a sailing model of a Dutch barge. However, have failed to find any drawings or kits available.


Anyone had any experience of making such a model. Obviously similar to a Thames barge.

You could be lucky if you go onto the Amsterdam Ship Museum archives https://www.nationaalarchief.nl/onderzoeken/archief/4.MST and search there while practicing your Dutch. Tony

Ready built one in stock at Howes, perhaps not the most detailed model. I'm no expert on Dutch barges but noticed the steering boards

maybe a start to get some types for further search.  And several 'frames' you can use to build the hull. Not as nice as the round ones but more or less easy to built.

Found some drawings at Sarik models, following some other advice. It’s for a 18 inch model but if I doubled the size it might work. There’s an old copy of model boat magazine with it in. Also found a 82 page book on the internet.


So with these three items and your suggestions, there might be some progress.


I do want to make a sailing model and will need to investigate how a false keel can added, although getting the Lee boards to raise/lower would a great additional feature
