ultra fine wire
« on: May 22, 2024, 04:37:49 pm »

Hi, All
Has any one used the ultra fine 32AWG wire from component shop, i want to use it to connect the lights on the mast for my work boat, because of the scale the thin wire looks nice, but, its coated with some thing probably thin plastic, so, my question is do i need to scrape this covering of to solder it or will the heat melt it as im soldering the wire to the LED...

The wire is likely enamel coated.  Some recommend scraping the coating away, prior to soldering, but you can likely just "pre-solder" the wire ends.  This will burn away the enamel coating and contain it within the solder.  To check your success, you can do a continuity test with a multimeter.

Here is a YouTube video explaining the technique:

Its varnish, you will save a lot of frustration by scraping it off before tinning and soldering.
