« on: June 14, 2024, 04:00:26 am »

Hi Crew looking at the Schnellboot drive shafts triple shaft portside turns outboard left hand and midship and stb turn right hand trying to work out if a single motor via gears to all three shafts or midship stb together port alone ,or three big motors one per prop is the better way to go did look into 5 gears with shafts off 1,3,5,this is a large scale model any Schnellboot builders with imput much appreciated tassie48

From my experience with large models I would counsel you use one engine per shaft. Gearboxes are notoriously noisy and hard to align and in my opinion not worth the trouble. Much depends on whether you are going brushless as in that case you will need three speed controllers which can be hard to co-ordinate. If brushed its easy and you can get away with a single speed controller provided the capacity is not exceeded.

It also depends on whether you want independent control of the motors or not.

Cheers

I have a 1/24th I use a 550 brushed on the outer shafts on a 6v lead acid for cruising and a forward only brush less on the centre when I want to speed
