Accidentally reversed battery polarity on Tx

(1/1)

..and there was that awful smell.

It's an old 40MHz unit and I wonder if the damage is repairable. When trued on, the Rx just makes the servos chatter, randomly.

What would have burned out?

Is it repairable?

Thanks!

once the magic smoke gets out, it's incredibly difficult to get it back in again

Have a look inside and take a photo of where it smells. It is most likely to be a toasted regulator that doesn't have reverse protection.

johndora:
Thanks, will do.

It's recently been given to me and when I took it apart three of six screws were missing. Maybe the problem was there before and someone tried. I've a pal who's a wizard with electronic repairs who will look at it for me.

Fastelectrics:
Most would have a reverse polarity protection diode to prevent this from happening. It may be something simple if you can locate the burnt out component(s).
