She was an interesting vessel and state for heavy lift ships of the art when built. She did her maiden voyage from Birkenhead in 1983. She was scrapped some years ago I believe.

Assume you are referring to the Jumbo Challenger and not the Glomar Explorer.

hi there

Not quite an 'old' ship as yet.  Here's the ship which has been visiting the Tyne - Aeolus - she is used for the wind farms for lifting the large tubes into the water.

To give you an idea - our house is roughly 1.5 - 2 miles away from the Tyne (as the crow flies) - here is a photograph (admittedly it is a very poor photograph which I took from one of the upstairs windows of our house.   You will see the top section of her jib - and this will give you an idea of how big this thing is.

The 2nd pic is of her leaving the Tyne this morning.

A very strange ship I have happed to see in Hokkaido is this ship floating on the land..... {-) %%
"What's this!!" was my initial impression..... {-) {-) {-) {-)
This looked too old. Yes, this is a dredger used here many many years ago for dredging the wet field around here.
At my first glance, I was so much surprised to see her since she looked a kind of ship but... ON THE LAND and no freeboard
actually... {-) :o :embarrassed:

Peat dredge to create, peat blocks for burning, or peat moss.
