Lifeboat Plan
« on: August 16, 2024, 08:45:03 pm »

Would anyone have a 1/12 scale plan for a 1930`s  Liverpool single Lifeboat,
the one that had sails.   Please pm me.

                               Thanks.

There is a Vic Smeed plan which represents the later version of the Liverpool type lifeboat.

https://www.vintagemodelplans.com/products/build-a-liverpool-type-lifeboat-35ft-6in-o-a-and-scaled-to-3-4-in-1ft-full-size-printed-plan

Wickipedia  suggests that the later boats were twin screw versions of the earlier motor sailers with 8 inches extra beam.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liverpool-class_lifeboat

It may be worth getting the Vic Smeed plan and modifying it back to the original single engine sailing type. Shouldn't be too difficult. The Vick Smeed plan is 1:16 but is easily enlarged to 1:12 at a print shop.

RNLI Grace Darling, preserved at Chatham is the last of the later Liverpool class boats as you are probably already aware. Could be useful  as a reference for detail work.

It is often the case that you won't find exactly what you want commercially and will need to do extra research and conversions. It's all part of the fun. With a project like this it is very rare that you will find accurate drawings and information 'off the shelf'. I am experiencing the same with my Edwardian liner Militiades project where the contemporary information available is frequently contradictory even using National Maritime Museum drawings. Historical records are often unavailable,or just simply wrong! The Vic Smeed plan looks like a good place to start for you project and if you can visit Grace Darling at Chatham that would probably fill in a lot of gaps.

                     Colin,

Thank you for using your time to find out the info you have posted, the boat I am looking
at is ON760 ANNE ALLEN which was rebuilt at a boat yard about 5 miles away from me
before the owner decided to sell her. I have several photos of the boat the day it left for
Padstow to be used as a trip boat. I do all ready have a the file for ON927 Grace Darling
                               a Liverpool twin.
