Hi
It may be a bit nervous and delicate point to choose an adequate size of motor.
I also made quite the same experience on that point and finally decided the motor from the viewpoint of output power.
My original specifications of The Jupiter F-99(40" long) was powered by Enya 60 2st IC engine with 1.45HP.
Happening to find a brushless motor water-cooled with an output of 1200watt(1.6HP), KV2200, I soon purchased itwithout hesitation.!!
The screw prop is 46mm dia, two bladed that has been working nicely up to today.
See the video how actually the newly born boat sailed. I am satisfied with this level of sailing performance.
Jupiter F-99 at speed in the spring sailing for 2022 - YouTube .......This is a bit fast version.
My Jupiter F-99 sailed calmly in a very fine day of May. - YouTube......This is slow speed version.!!
1; I removed the Enya 60 IC engine together with a steel plate mount from the bed.
2; And I installed the brushless motor of the above.
3; 46mm dia prop. The original spec was 60 dia. prop two bladed with the IC engine.
4; The newly born Jupiter F-99 with the brushless motor ran like this really scale like speed. Not so fast, not so slow!
5; This is just an addition.
Good luck with your challenge to the brushless motor conversion project.!!
