Smoke Generator units and recommendations
« on: October 15, 2024, 09:04:48 pm »

Hello Forum,

I'm making slow but steady progress on my tramp steamer model and I think I've decided to go with electric power and a smoke/ steam generator unit rather than a live steam engine.  I'm interested in the 'water vapour' type units rather than the ones that use oil and an electric heater.   I started to search the market and found a few examples, for example from 'model Boat Bits:

I'm interested to know if anyone has got some experience of commercial smoke generator units and can recommend a good one.  My model is quite big (5 ft long) and I would like to have a good long steaming time - maybe an hour at a time?

Hi
I have the 6v one, it works very well, it's just a bit on the weak side for my liking

That's all right, Mr Ryan. My Morse is so rusty, I could be sending him dimensions on Playmate of the Month.

Thanks for the reply - that's good to know.  Yes it looks like the 12V one produces more 'steam', so perhaps that's the one to go for.
