R.N.L.B NO705 EMED
« on: October 19, 2024, 11:24:35 pm »

Dear members,

I hope this message finds you well. I would like to know if you could assist me in my search.
I am looking for a specific plan, namely the R.N.L.B. EMED or its twin, the R.N.L.B. Greater London, which are lifeboats.
The first, the RNLI "Prudential," launched in 1925, was an open type, without a cabin or flotation tanks at its ends. It was 38 feet long and was powered by a four-cylinder 80 HP diesel engine model D&E, built by Weyburn, with only one propeller.
The other two lifeboats of the Ramsgate class, the LB ON 705 "E.M.E.D.," built by J. Samuel White in Cowes, Isle of Wight, assigned to the Walton on-the-Naze station, and the LB "Greater London," assigned to the Southend on-the-Sea station, were substantially redesigned.
The length of their wooden hull was increased by six inches, their displacement was 23 tons, and their two 40 HP diesel engines model CE4, built by Weyburn, with six cylinders and twin propellers to facilitate maneuvers, allowed them a range of 70 nautical miles with a maximum speed of 8.32 knots.
The auxiliary sail area was of lesser importance, and there was a protective cabin in front of the command cabin, which covered the engine controls.
In the 1950s, both were sold, one to Chile and the other to Uruguay, respectively.
If you have any information, I would be very grateful.
I know that compared to what you usually work on, they might not be significant, but the one that arrived in Chile later became known as Cap. Christiansen, and my father was a volunteer with the Valparaíso Lifeboat Service.

Best regards, and thank you.

have you tried getting in touch with the national maritime museum in Greenwich, UK, as they have a vast selection of old RNLI plans daiting back to the 19th century.
They charge for research and searching at a given flat rate and also for the plans per sheet if found and will send either by hard copy or via your computer which ever you wish, but they do have a large library of lifeboat plans given by the RNLI,

Hello,

Yes I did and they answered me immediately.
The plans are still in box.

" Dear Hernan Garcia Curotto,Thank you for your enquiry regarding our collection of ship plans.
Yes, we can supply high-resolution files of this plan.
However, it seems that the plans you are interested in have not been digitised yet.
In terms of costs, we charge £80+VAT for the first plan, and then £60+VAT per subsequent plan requested in the same order. We then provide exact scale, 300 dpi JPEGs digital image files, available for download from a link sent via email. "

Thanks for the recommendation
