When I have commented on here that we, as modellers, undervalue our work, I've been roundly condemned by people who say all our models have no value.
If we don't value them, why should anyone else?
On a practical point. Many years ago, I had my rolling stock stolen from my van on the way back from a model railway exhibition. After a little tussle with the insurance, they paid the value of the part of each kit-built locomotive plus £100, the cost for a professional build of the last one I had constructed. Fortunately, the manufacturer was also a pro model maker, and could give me a number. Eventually, I received a cheque, and replaced most of the kits. Plenty more building time, as I assembled them myself, but there was a payout against the exhibition insurance.
