Right back where I started
« on: November 09, 2024, 10:38:15 am »

I have built and sailed a few model boats before.
And now due to memory loss .
I am totally stuck. Again.

So here we go  I will order some prop shafts and I already have some props .
The shaft will have 4 mm ends . I still remember the universal joints one end and the other again is a. 4 mm thread but the props are not threaded.

So I am looking for how to put the prop that’s 4 mm with no thread onto to shaft 4 mm that has a thread.

I must have in the past done this a dozen or so times but can’t remember a thing about it.

So what will I need and where can I get them.

Any help would be great fully received. And I will write  it down for later use…

I will without doubt have many other basic questions that I just never wrote down or forgotten.

If the shafts are over-length you can cut the threaded portion off carefully.  Otherwise no, there's no way to put an M4 thread inside a 4mm bore.

Many thanks for the reply

The propshafts have a 4 mm thread.   Both ends
But the propellor has no thread  but is 4 mm
I would like to know how to fit a propellor and where I could by the bits to do so .

Isn't the solution to just cut a 4mm thread inside the prop. If the hole in the prop is 4mm then this can't be easily done, however an alternative is to make the prop hole bigger such it can take an insert which in turn can be tapped 4mm

Cheers Geoff

Is there no prop of the same size available with a 4mm thread?

If the prop has an unthreaded hole it may be designed for use with a dog drive.  Google "model propeller dog drive " to see what they look like...

I was going to post an image of them I know there 55 mm. But again it’s really madding but can’t remember where I put them for safe keeping .

This memory thing is very annoying . Well lack of memory thing is driving me mad.  Well that’s of course if I was ever sane 😂

Only 'tools' required to fit a helicoil is the tap and the insert. Hole size required to tap for M4 insert is near enough - - 4mm.
Think Dodgy has nailed it, when you find the prop, is there a slot across the bush?
