The Shipyard ( Dry Dock ): Builds & Questions > Lifeboats
1/12 Waveney
6705russell:
Hi all and happy new year.
I am attempting to put a Waveney back on the straight and narrow and complete the build, this was started (badly) and anything that was built as been binned, I am concentrating on the wheelhouse now and my question is how would this sit level wise? On the RNLI drawings the wheelhouse roof looks level, as you can see on my pictures the wheelhouse is angled upwards, looking at past build some look level and some are angled up, can anyone confirm what it should be?
Thanks in advance.

Is that the one that was bought from me and picked up at the Blackpool show in October, as I remember the painted hinges in that strange colour which i have never seen before.
If it isit was an old teaching friend of mine who was building it as the last boat he ever made, as he was dying from cancer as he was building it.
Although he was a brilliant builder in his "well" days, he made some poor cock ups on his boat and after i had bought it from the estate about 5 years ago, I decioded very early this year that i didn't wish to start correcting my old friends work and so sold it on to someone who said he had a buyer lined up for it.
yes the cabin top and lower surrounds were badly made by him but i put vthat down to his ilness, but there are plenty of photos of the Waveney AND the US and Canadian Coastguard "Waveneys" that will give the answers to your cunundrum

No idea where it originated from, it was advertised on the model lifeboat forum, nice chap up in Halifax who had stripped it and made a start re-fitting the shafts and deck.
A little more work done on the cabin interior, rivet detail added, exterior air boxes fitted, found some bigger rivets for the lower line by the deck as I believe these were bigger?
Next job is to make a new roof for the wheelhouse

Scratch built the roof using pictures and reference books as no spare roof parts available from the supplier so it’s not perfect but it will be ok to my eyes, bit of a mare to build with the different levels and angles..

Decided to make the mast array in plastic whilst I am working indoors, demountable in two parts so shouldn’t get knocked about to much, might construct a brass one in the spring and see what the weight difference is, also made the mounts for the navigation lights, again from drawings.
