Deluxe Materials Easy Coat
« on: December 29, 2024, 08:21:50 pm »

Hello has anyone on here used Deluxe Materials Easy Coat to seal the inside of a rc wood boat hull
What to expect does it apply like the consistency of water, or is it more of a thick paste when applied .
Does it create a good strong bond to wood and seal wood well would it be appropriate for sealing the inside of a wood hull end results what to expect when using this product .
Any help would be appreciated

It is fine for sealing a wooden hull inside or out and dries quickly. A bit thicker than water but flows well with a brush.Water cleanup for any over spill.

Not cheap these days, but nothing is. A little goes a long way though.

Some people think it is similar to acrylic floor seal but that is a matter of opinion and if you buy floor seal it is usually only available in relatively large quantities for obvious reasons.

I have been using it for a long time with no problems inside and outside my hulls and to fix GRP cloth on the outside.

Hi Colin

Thanks for responding to my post appreciated. Question seeing it is a bit thicker in consistency than
say water, would you notes any weight gain or does the product allow you to spread out a thin even coat when applied

Yes, you can brush it out as thin as you like. Nearly all the weight in the bottle is the water in which the resin is dissolved and that evaporates as the Eze Kote dries to leave a thin film of hardened resin that will seal wood. Once dry you can add further coats if you want.

With epoxy resin the setting is a chemical process and there is no weight loss.

Just to reinforce Colin's comments, I have used Eze Kote to seal the inside of my hulls and found it both easy to use and effective as a sealer.  Haven't noticed any significant weight gain and you don't need to use huge quantites to seal the wood.  You can paint over it easily, and glue wooden parts on top of it with a good bond.  Good stuff!

As with others I also use Eze-Kote to seal the inside of hulls. I usually apply a couple of coats whereas on the outside using lightweight cloth I use multiple coats.

Good thing with it being thin is that you can liberally apply above hard to reach places and let it run down, moving it around so that it's not too thick.

Hello everyone thanks for your input on Eze Kote. Pleased to hear your experience working with this product is a positive one seems to yields good results .SailorGreg mentioned it will bond to other products glue. Will it adhere to Aliphatic resin glues, such as titebond 3 or I see Deluxe Materials make their own versions Aliphatic resin glue? I guess the most critical part to all of this is to make sure that what ever glue you use to glue up your frame with. May it be carpenters glue, is to get a good seal applied Eze Kote and hope that the seal hold up under the stress of moving around on the water at a pretty good clip over time so no water can penetrate the wood and wood joints .

Useful info in this topic, even more so as I discovered I have an unopened bottle of Eze Kote under my bench!

What I meant was that after you have coated the wood you can still glue other parts on to the surface.  I have only done this with aliphatic glue, so I can't vouch for other types, but I suspect superglue and white woodworking glue will work as well.  Not sure about epoxies, they can be a bit particular about what they stick to.  Anyone tried epoxy on top of Eze Kote?

Hi if you follow this link you can see how i used deluxe ez cote. I used this material on my lobster boat repair if you follow the link to the very end you can see the final result. Please note the internal areas are finished car resin and glass fibre tissue.

The second picture shows my latest build at 50 inches in lenght to cover both inside and out using using a certain product would have cost a fair amount. So I deided to go for car resin and tissue cost £12. I fully respect you choice and i have had no problems using it. :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))
