There has been a while since the last message related to Monahan Steam Models has been posted, so I decided to start a new one.

The steam plant has recently been run for the first time since it was produced and runs now excellently.

That is a really nice plant and set up, and not a wisp of a steam leak anywhere, brilliant

That indeed is a VERY smooth running engine!

What puzzled me a bit, is that I saw oiler cups on the shaft of the reversing mechanism, but NOT on the caps of the main bearings???

I thought that a bit weird?

Weird or not, that’s the question.


Well, a little bit, maybe, but it makes the whole thing look more attractive like cosmetics do.

The main bearings have all ball bearings inside. So a lubricator cup would not help oiling these ball bearings due to the lack of a radial hole allowing the oil to access the cage with the balls.

The cups on the reverser on the reversing shaft are super economic on the other side: just a drop of oil every few years keep it moving for years.

A little bit of cosmetic details makes everything looking a little bit better, doesn‘t it?
