It's simply C
A starts with open parenthesis and ends with a close, so even though the characters look identical it does not follow whats asked.
B starts with an exclamation and ends with a £ sign so read from either end starts with a different character - not what it asks.
C both ends start with a less than symbol, then a greater than, and a greater than in the middle two.
D same as B
E two + followed by different as the 2nd character.
While writing this I originally thought A but after going through it I was wrong and it's C
