largish type 45 rebuild
« on: April 17, 2025, 03:57:06 pm »

For those of you with very long memories back about 18 to 20 years ago there was on here a build thread for a type 45 destroyer in 1/32nd scale by ateamboatyard. After the build was done the boat attended many shows including mayham one year and sailed the thames for charity. It was then sold on to a new owner.
Now a group including two of the original ateamboatyard members have reaquired the boat are have just started to give it a full refit. myself and matt beck spent the weekend inspecting the hull so we could set a target deadline and see how bad things were.would the story of the refit be of interest to mayhemers, have included a couple of pictures as it is now.

Didn't this large scale model of the Type 45 sail on a long-distance endurance type run?  %) ......with the owner/builder following on in a conventional full sized motor vessel?...... Derek

Wow. And I thought 1/48 was big. In the States you would have to register it, and pay tariff. :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed:

Greetings All,
Re the Longbuild post "Runcorn MBC" if I'm not mistaken that was filmed at the Ellesmere Port show and that boat was owned by a friend of mine Adam Godin from the Balne Moor club. The type 45 was indeed massive and needed a trailer to transport it. I think it was the year that a group of us pushed the day trip barge into its berth with our tugs, unfortunately I don't have any photos of this but I do remember the looks of amazement on the passengers faces.
         Happy sailing.
                Cheers, Pete.  :-)) :-)) :-))

The boat attended Ellesmere twice once with myself and alan noble and later with the new owner. Fhe pictures are from our visit. The flight deck is blank but on its visit with the owner he had painted it dark grey and added the white lines
