Greetings everyone,
Yesterday at our pond Rotten Row Southport we had an event to mark VE day, we did this in conjunction with our neighbours Southport model engineering club who run the steam railway next door to our pond. The weather was kind to us once again with sun most of the day albeit with a cool breeze, our secretary Eric provided us with Bunting, extra flags, a variety of flat caps and a sound system on which he played 40's music all day. The attendance was excellent with the car park full and most of Rotten row outside full, Paul our Masterchef was non stop all day with the famous bacon butties and burgers flying out at a rate of knots (sorry about the pun). I did not post the event on the forum as we did not know how many of our members plus the Engineers would attend, as it happened we had a very large attendance with a substantial amount of visitors and passers by. As a remembrance and tribute to our fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives to save our country and our parents, at 12.30pm we assembled a large flotilla of boats and sailed around the pond to a musical background of Rod Stewarts "Sailing". This went down very well and caused a few teary eyes.
All in all an excellent day to pay tribute to our World War 2 forces.
Many thanks to everyone who attended.
Kind Regards,
Pete.Farrell. SMBC Vice Chairman.
P.S. If I can get hold of the pics (I was sailing in the Flotilla) I will try and add them to the post.
