Hi all,
My naval holiday for about 2 months is now over and the build-up project of my naval vessels has just re-started with the above-written boat.   This project is supposed to take about 5 months including successful sailings on our choppy lake which is my final purpose.   This RC boat has to run a bit fast stably with a nice turn and good maneuverability as to meet the scale appearance.

I selected this boat because of the suitable size (40.5'' long, not so long nor short), massive hull and high free board by which I had imagined that the boat would be seaworthy and dynamic even on our choppy lake at higher speed.
    Instead, top-heavy tendency might possibly show up which is my nervous point on the boat in exchange for the promising merits.
Anyhow, the massive, powerful and stylish profile has long allured me since I saw her first in this spring.
I'm going to arm this boat with some powerful gun on the foredeck by which I call my boat "super-Guardian class patrol boat".


Pics for today are only as below because I'm a little bit busy with checking the contents of the 3D printed boat which is my first experience to actually see.   More and more pics with less descriptions will follow in the near future.

Thanks a lot for your comment.!!
This is my first experience to build the block-style method as often seen in the real ship building world.
Therefore, I may sufficiently be able to enjoy that style of hull building.

I checked the hull briefly/mainly to grasp the whole image and construction of the Guardian patrol boat.
Initial impression is massive at any rate, as you see. I am seriously afraid of top-heavy tendency....
I have to build the boat deliberately in no way of suffering such characteristic in the trial run scheduled to carry out this November.
And a good accessibility into the hull seems to be secured by large and many openings with which I'm satisfied.
You can install whatever you wish to do in the hull.!!!?? For the sake of lowering the CG to reduce top-heavy nature?

Kiyo...[oops sorry].....this Guardian Class patrol Boat appears to be a similar design build to the Australian Armidale Class patrol variant


The major difference with the Guardian is the extended Focsle sides than flair upwards from the bow to the accommodation block, however essentially it is hollow above deck level


The Armidale when first built displayed the same extended sides, however these remained level with the deck. There are many examples of the Armidale Class models and all display excellent sea keeping characteristics


I am sure with your vast experience, you will maintain of low CofG by careful placement of machinery etc

I'm so glad to have a comment from a man with profound knowledge like you whose country is just the homeland of such a prominent Guardian class and an Armidale class patrol boats.!!


I just put the hull sections together provisionally again to study how I should place a RC mechanism and some linkages.
The space is extremely vast in the hull while RC running gears only occupies very little in it unlike my 1/32 PT109 MTB...

A foreigner's name is sometimes confusing, like KIYO (Japanese)and KIBO(French?) both of which resemble each other very much. indeed...


Important accessibility for a practica Rc boat appears to be secured by the pics below.
So wide and vast inside and a good deal of buoyance is anticipated by the inside space and lightweight construction of the hull.
Due to such hull construction, I suppose comparatively much ballast will/may be required to get the hull to sit a bit deep in the water partly for the sake of refraining from an expected top-heavy nature.

Is it a Resin or plastic 3D print?

What glue do they recommend?

Thank you for questions.
The material is plastic and glue is CA together with accelerator as per the instruction manual.
I'm going to use both medium viscosity and super-low viscosity CAs to be overcoated with epoxy to add much rigidity to the hull.
The hull is massive and only CA appears too insufficient to cope with the vibration from motors and rough waves by fast speed..


There was no instruction manual in the kit box at first and the seller sent it to me by PDF on my request.
Then I printed it on paper reaching 48 pages.　♫～♩～♬

In the very beginning of this build, I have started with making the rudder assemblies using some stock parts as seen below.
It's comparatively easy to do though the locations were narrow to set the rudder ass'ys and their linkages.
A bit deliberate study has to be done.   For the purpose of having minimum space for a precise rudder horn movement, some tiny cut out may possibly be required at transom during general assembly stage.

I worked out how to set the rudder linkages in a comparatively narrow space...
In the end,I have come to a conclusion that some cut out at transom is indispensable to secure free and precise movement of rudder horns.

Well, it's about the time to get into the assembly of the hull itself...
Before assembly, the instruction manual indicated to remove the unnecessary parts from the hull body.
Assembly itself is comparatively easy and precise to do thanks to self-alignment pins to be set between the hull sections which are 8 in number. They are large parts though alignment pins really worked very well to glue the hull sections precisely and neatly. 🎵～♬～♪～(^^♪

I used both medium and super thin CAs overcoated with 30minutes epoxy to get the hull rigider.
This hull is so-called monocoque structure so that it is stiffen enough despite of its thin skin.
Bow portion is deep V structure and I' m expecting the trial run on our lake with this sharp V shape along with a shallow V at rear hull bottom.

I can see that the file set is available on cults3d.com. Maybe a candidate for a winter project for me.

I'm very new to 3D printed kit and impressed with awesome kit quality in addition to an easy and precise assembly.

I'm planning on modifying foredeck portion to pic1 from pic2 in order to equip with a powerful gun system.
A naval vessel had better equip with some armament aboard the foredeck in my impression...!!

The gun portrayed on the bow appears to be a 30 or 40mm Royal Navy DS30m, or MK44 Bushmaster.

Thank you for an information of the on-board weapon for the Guardian class patrol boat.
MK44 Bushmaster is one of the very powerful guns really...
I am thinking of what type of main gun is susitable for my super-Guardian class patrol boat for our "Japan navy specification"..
OTO melara super-rapid 76mm gun mount is one of the candidates as seen in our navy jet patrol boat.

Kiyo........the Otto Melara Mk75 - 76 mm Italian designed gun mount is way too heavy for your project

I know this well, as I supervised the removal of the first Mk75 - 76mm Otto Melara gun mount from one of our Australian FFG Frigates

It was an interesting project, as the [below deck] rotating magazine is larger overall diameter than the mount deck swivel. This dictated having four large wooden box's to be manufactured to house the four elements of the rotating magazine machinary


I think that Mk44 II Bushmaster would be an ideal sizing choice........  as used by a number of Western Navies......

Thank you always for informative advice.
I know general data and information of the gun system.
Frankly speaking, I have ever been to Oto melara in La Spezia in Italy for about 2 weeks on business about 4 decades before.
And I also have seen the awesome 76/62 compact gun mount at the production site in Japan.
From the experience of the above, the whole gun system is tremendously compact/small and lightweight as compared with
US-made 3" gun mount of the same period. Oto melara used to make an advertisement as saying that the gun could be mounted on even tiny patrol boat less than even 100t displacement.  US-made Mk33 3" twin naval gun is about 15t....while Oto melara 76/62 is 7t....

The pic of the patrol boat with Oto melara super-rapid is Japan navy jet boat (posted yesterday)which length is 50m with 8.5m beam/250t full-loaded while the Guardian class patrol boat is 40m long with 8m beam...

From the above and the illustration of the Oto gun mount below , I just imagined that the Guardian might be possible to equip with the Oto melara 76/62 super-rapid gun.   Shall I inquire to the Austal for that point..?
However, the Oto gun will finally be excluded in my super-Guardian simply because it may look ugly when in sailing on the water at speed...
I addition to the above, an additional (large)FCS antenna has to be installed on the roof of the wheelhouse which will also spoil the good profile of the boat.
