Afternoon All! Made a gift of a large model tug to my grieving Dad, ended up with one myself . We also now have a beautiful Caldercraft puffer. Looking for a lake near Oxford.

Whereabouts in Oxford? I live near Witney and was a member of the Oxford MBC for a few years, but issues with parking, algae, and aggressive swans spoilt it. I know of several people who sail there who have had boats damaged or even destroyed by the swans. One of mine was badly damaged.


I am now a member of the Mid Thames Model Boats Club who have access to a large lake south of Reading with only a couple of swans, who keep well out of our way. Car parking is a few metres from the lakeside, there are tables to set up on, and a rescue boat should a model get stuck out of reach. It's a very friendly club.


It's over an hour's drive each way for me, but it is worth the effort.

Thanks Dave- Dad's in Botley. The damned swan attacked my Dad's speedboat . I won't risk the Caldercraft Puffer or our Tugs there at Hinksey. The Reading Club sounds good!

The swans are a real menace - actually, I think it just the one cob that seems to have decided that the boating pond and the larger lake beside it are his territory. I think most of us who have used Hinksey in the last few years have tales to tell about boats being damaged or destroyed by the same swan.


Look up Mid Thames Model Boat Club - good stretch of water, no interest from the wildlife, and a very friendly and helpful bunch of people.
