Anybody out there know what has happened to JJC Electronics.  I am getting an order together including their "Old Smokey" but suddenly the Web site is not accessable! :-\

Hi Barry
The general concensus throughout the model boating world seems to be that JJC have dissappeared and gone out of business, letting down a lot of people on the way.

Thanks Dicky. That is a shame, particularly as their "Old Smokey" seemed such a good idea. Any similar items, other than Graupners oil system out there do you know?

I wanted one of the Old Smokey's a while back, but was told that they were no longer available.
Isn't there a budding manufacturer out there who could start producing them under licence - there still seems to be a demand.

If i could get my hands on 2 smokey units i would be more then happy to buy them but it doesnt look like i will get them until a new manufacturer appears on the scene.

This is the full and current situation described by Barry at Westbourne Models, about 5 minutes ago:

The chap who runs JJC works a few weeks in India, setting up call centres, then is home for a few days, then is back to India for a few weeks, and so it has historically been difficult to get in contact, get orders etc. However, situation has got to a point where it is now impossible, and Westbourne have/will removed JJC from their website.

Main issue is that the guy is only in the UK for a few days at a time, and is coming home to a very full e-mail inbox and a phone full of messages, while he is trying to unwind.

Barry has spoken to a customer/friend who lives near the owner of JJC who wnet over to knock on the door and find out what's happening.. It would seem that the JJC chaps garage is rammed full of stock and kits

there has been a low level rumor that the chap may have cancer, but it seems more likely that he has just got fed up with the whole thing and given up so he can relax when at home.

I have e-mailed a few friends in India to see if they can track him down over there to get a phone number or working e-mail address for him, as I want to get some components and to replace one of his kits. If this works, I will post info in this thread.

Hope this helps.

Hi all.
Just to let you know. I am developing Sound units and eventually Smokies also.
The sound units should be on the market early next year.
