Hobby costs
« on: June 24, 2006, 01:50:54 pm »

How much does your hobby cost you? Try working it out for the current year and remember to include travel costs. How do you keep costs to a minimum or why do you feel that buying the very best equipment is money well spent?

I don't smoke I don't drink have very little s.... ( they are too quick for me now) and am getting on in years. I enjoy my model boating so any money I spend is well spent as far as I am concerned although others in the household may think different ( Her in the kitchen ). i no longer belong to any club but enjoy going to club open days where I can keep in touch with friends , I have two modeling holidays a year which gives her in the kitchen a break . So if anybody has some spare cash and would like to donate it to my petrol fund maybe I could afford to travel to your clubs open day. ::) ::) :o

I do smoke
I do drink
I do make model boats as a hobby.
I spend what I can afford, sell boats when I have to, and enjoy the shows.

Work out the costs???

That's the one thing I dare not do during the build of my Big Mersey!!!!  :-X

If I did I would have a heart attack, or more likely my wife would kill me!!!!!  ;)

If you think modelling is bad costwise just try the 1:1 scale version! I've just ordered four oversize fireworks in case the bottom falls out somewhere between the Isle of Wight and the mainland and I'm ?44 down. (and they go out of date after 3 years too)

It's a hobby, I spend what I can afford when I feel I need/want to. If you can't afford it don't do it. ;D Working out the cost would probably frighten me :o :o

Cheers

Judging by the results so far, it seems that the hobby compares well to other pastimes and for most of us is cheaper than drinking, playing golf, smoking or supporting a premiership football club. If you do those things as well you must be loaded!

I have worked for 40 years and paid taxes and now I am retired, so I build what I like when I like and the Government pays me every fortnight, when its gone I wait till next fortnight, In other words what I am saying is you can only spend what you can afford, and do so whenever you can..
