Canadian Model Boating scene
« on: January 22, 2008, 09:12:33 pm »

Hi, guys, just thought I'd ltell you a bit about our hobby over here.  Compared to Canada, our hobby is huge, huge, huge in the U.K.

Must be something to do with our cold winters   :'(

Over on this side of the big pond, I can count the number of model boating clubs in Canada on the fingers of one hand. Same with the number of suppliers of R/C model boat gear. Also we do not have a single Canadian model boating magazine, whereas you have, what, 2, 3, more?

Some modellers over here have to drive 100 miles or more to get to their nearest hobby shop!!

Of course it's different in the U.S. They have lots of clubs and suppliers, and several magazines. They tend to go more for model power boats, though.

Just thought you'd like to know how lucky you are!!   O0

I agree we don't have the boat modeling population here in Canada, but i think you underestimate the niumber we do have for the population available. Her in is a quick list I've put together of Canadian clubs. Don't forget there are a lot of people involved in the hobby but not in clubs. Here in the Lindsay area we have quite a number of excellent marine modelers.

Thanks, I stand corrected. I knew of about 2/3 the list you posted. I'll add the rest to my favourites.

And here is me thinking you were mapping Canada! Still, nice to know that model boating is chugging along in the outer reaches of civilised humanity. (Can't get much further West than Vancouver before bcoming East). Cheers. BY.

MS - e-mailed you the Burnaby Bulletin - no website that I'm aware of. Will check with my Nanaimo contacts.

Hello Bryan - Victoria / Vancouver Island still a bit west and the weather is better! Except unusually colder - sailing guys can't sail this weekend due to ice on the local lake!

Being a fan of Northern Exposure , why don't you put skids on the yachts? Best of all worlds then!.

Hello fellow canuckheads, transplanted leaf fan living in UK. Check out Victoria site it's quite good and there are some decent shops Toronto way with website, Cast Your Anchor, is a good one. Considering moving back as the kids are getting older and this gives me a great idea. Keep in touch I really miss hearing about the Leafs losing and ice storms {-)

Just thought I'd let you Canuks out there know that I am sealing a deal with our Canadian Forces Joint Imagery Centre (CFJIC) to get access to hundreds of sound clips of genuine original Canadian Naval and other military sound recordings. These will be offered on our range of superb sound modules.
