are westbourne having a laugh or what >:( >:( .i jwas just on thier site and they have a robbe breton fishing boat model kit priced at nearly £1200. :'( :'( for that you could have a martin masterpiece and it would be individual. alalthough it says it's got a cnc hull and deckk bits i don't think it warrants that kind of money do you? why do you need some bits cnc machined that takes all the fun out of building yoursefand admiring the finished article when you make a really nice job of it maybe its a real one they are giving away for that sort of money being a french fishing boat i don't suppose it's got much mileage under its keel spends too much time acrossthe entrance of some port :-\ or so stopping the rest of the genuine working classes earning a decent living. anyway be interested in you thoughts on the need to pay that kind of money for a kitin abs.  :-\ :-\ ??? ???bye boys.roy. They obviously have something wrong with their web site. If you try to buy it and go to the checkout the final bill is a staggering £1,175,010.00.  :o >>:-(
Makes the £1175 look cheap by comparison.  O0

Why fly first class when you could go economy? - Gets you there in the same time
Why have a Porsche when you could have a Fiesta? - Thru town, most probably follow each other all the way across
Why eat in a fancy restaurant when you can go to KFC? -  You still feel full, no matter where you eat
Why buy a £1000 steam plant instead of a £400 one? - They will both do the same job

Ok, it is expensive, but if a person wants to pay for it and make it, let them.
I am against expensive rip offs, but if a kit costs that much to make and market, if you want it, you got to pay it. If you can't afford it, you don't get to make it.
A 'Martin masterpiece' can only be a masterpiece if the person building it has the experience to make it so, someone else who kit bashes could make one look like the African Queen on a bad day (and believe me it does happen).
Model boating is as cheap or as expensive as you want to make it, some can afford it, some can't.

Wouldn't life be wonderful if we all went down to the lake on a Sunday and there was nothing there but flotillas of 'Martin masterpieces' serenely sailing around the lake, I think not.

MTB said "why do you need some bits cnc machined that takes all the fun out of building yoursefand admiring the finished article "

Why buy a kit at all ?  :P On that basis the best model will be one you have personally cut the wood for from the original tree, refined the oil for plastic and smelted the metal from ore.

If people want a kit, let them buy a kit. No-one is forcing you to buy it are they ?

On the other hand, I suspect the price is a typo. Bet there is an extra one on the front. If I'm wrong, fair play to them. I don't suppose they will sell many at that price but it's brave to try.

Typo, of course. I found it on another website for 420 Euros - I doubt if Westbourne will ger many takers @ £1.17M......... If they do, then I have matching speed controllers to suit @ only £4,000 each!

FLJ, like my grandfather use to say:
Every day there are some nuts walking around. The trick is, to find `em and make a business out of it.

Don`t get me wrong, I don`t want to call somebody who buys a kit for the money a nut, fool or whatever. He just has the money to buy it. And the moment he pays, he find it worth the price.

Remember, not everybody has the skill to build a boat- but some has the money to buy it.

To come back to DickyD, there are some who feel themselve fine in a Fiesta. Some care a (word not allowed) and buy a Lamboghini, just to put it in the garage and never drive it.

Finally, everybody is old enough to know, what he spends his money for. A problem I will not have either as I am always a bit broke...  :P
