Are there any cheaper versions? The 1/12 version is just too large and the smaller 1/16 version is over my budget at over £500 without radio gear

RNLI sell a Severn in RTR form. It's nice but really cries out for detailing and replacement of the motor & radio gear. I've seen a couple of these done up and they look the part. I also replaced the motors & radio in one for my ex-brother in law and it was pretty good. He never bothered sailing it  >>:-( but I tested it before handing it over and with twin 380's it got up on the plane and looked part at the lake.

We found a 6V gell cell would nearly fit in the supplied battery compartment. The model is held together with screws so easy to get into. You need a bit of work with car body filler to fit new shafts but nothing worse than a kit will need.

I know it's not as good as a kit you made yourself but with a bit of work you can be on the water quickoy while you build the kit. Budget just over £100 all in and you'll be OK.

Yep Explorer750 my lifeboat has had a few different set-ups in her now and still it runs like a dream no matter what weather you chuck at it.

the best set-up so far has to be 7.2v running 2x 385size motors with SHG marine M2 ball raced shafts with a pair of 3 blade 30mm props.
Going on the price of the parts with boat its well worth it until i can afford a bigger severn.

I remember that a RTR RNLI Atlantic style boat was also available at that time can you still buy it? If so is it to ripe for convertion.

Very nice. I have another one of these tucked away - well you have to support the RNLI don't you - and I really fancy having a go at doing this.
