I have one of these and they are not too bad at all. Using a short spacer tube and a longer mounting screw on the top arm junior hacksaw blades will fit and can be used for heavier work.

hi ya, I have one of these as well  and I modified the 'clamps' on the top and bottom arms to take fretsaw blades; the only comment I would make is 'throw away the cheap blades that come with the machine' and 'purchase some decent ones - something like wolfcraft - they do a good set of blades'.

Just an afterthought an amendment - I note that the title of this is 'Fretsaw' machine - the machine itself takes what they call 'Coping' saw blades which have a locating pin at the top and bottom; much the same as a junior hacksaw blade has.  Whereas, a fretsaw blade does not have a 'locating' pin.

I bought one from aldi which came with coping saw blades and would not cut a straight line in anything - I replaced them with piercing saw blades held by the supplied end clamps and it is really good.

I've got a tennon saw, several fine bladed and a Japanese saw; I can't get any of them to cut straight!!  Its getting to the point now that I need to use a mitre box for straight cuts!

Old age..you've all got it to look forward to.

 The wider the blade the straighter the cut , a Pull saw should be the best hand tool . Coping , Fret , & Piercing blades for curved work , A bandsaw is most universal  power saw in a workshop with blades for 1/8" to 1/2" ( 5/8") on some small ones. If i had to only one powersaw it would be a small to mid size bandsaw eg,  Delta,  Kity"woodster",  or Rexon.

I have one from Axminster from a few years ago at ove rtwie the price. Having tried various ones at modelling and woodwork shows there was no doubt that hegner were the best but I'm too mean to buy one.
What struck me about my cheap one is that a cover had dimples pressed for the fixing screws but the chinaman with a pistol drill had missed them completely. I wondered why when the total laboutr cost in one of these is only about £3 why they can't double that and soooo increase the quality.

scroll saw's will pull to the right or left (i forget )  due to the way the blade is made
the teeth bend one way and pull to that side.  i bought a craftsman saw and love it!!!
mine use's 5'' pin and non pinned blades. you can buy a 360' blade and cut from all sides
very handy for large parts

It arrived late this afternoon..by FED EX
I had used their tracking system and established it was in a van..en route at 1530hrs..
I phoned their Depot at 1615hrs, wondering if it would be delivered today,
 "Oh Yes" replied the helpful voice, "Its 76 on a load of 80". ....
1645hrs the tracking system showed it had been delivered,
 as I was sitting waiting for it, it hadn't come to me. 
On the phone again..where was my package? 
"Its been delivered" replied the helpful voice...
"No it hasn't" I replied, "I'm sitting here waiting for it"
...pause.."Are you sure" queried the voice...."I am sure" I said
 .."OH".."I'll check with his depot" please wait...wait.....
"The drivers not in his van" said helpful voice....
"I will phone back in 20minutes"......
19 minutes later...
"he is on his way" said helpful voice to my son...(I was in the bath)
20 minutes later...Knock on bathroom door..."Its arrived"....
The driver had asked my boy.. "Huh did you phone my depot?...
Boy.."nah that was my dad"....
"Huh" said driver...
There were two big Doc Martin foot prints on the top of the box......

Hi Banjo

If you do any modifications changes to the blade or anything that holds it, I would really value some pictures.

I can buy this cheap sort of stuff here and if it need moding I would love to know how.
