Whatever floats your boat!

I wouldn't launch my scale pride and joy like this, but I guess it is one way of getting it into the water!  Those OMRA boys are SCARY!

I don't think I shall be launching battleship HMS Warspite in that manner.

It would have looked a bit better if the nose was a bit lower, then he could have had two boats in one a speed boat and a submarine...

I saw that launch too and I though it looked a tad harsh.  Mind you, some of the styles used by todays fliers are also rough when compared to yesteryear!

And as for the submarine bit...well one chap did end up with just the bow sticking up.  Looked good though, just before it sank, bouncing around like that!

I was dead impressed with the OMRA petrol powered boats - very fast. Using Zenoah engines, for those who wish to know and don't. Not my bag, but damned fun to watch!

Many moons ago (late seventies/early eighties) it was against the rules to throw (multi) boats into the water. Now, apparently, it is the generally accepted method of launching. Ah well, times change!

its like the pre-ignition shove that modern missiles use, the fact that the boat is already in motion saves fuel for a longer run, also the engine has to work less to get from splash-down speed up to race speed.

well, thats my theory at least

I would have thought in that circumstance GHOST that it would be a lot simpler to put in a one ounce bigger fuel tank, but then I am an old fart and that would make sense to me, but I guess not the them boys...

Quite a few surface drive boats take a while to get up on the plane and some cannot achieve planing speed without a good shove.

After having watched the OMRA boys, I think there is another reason:

Sharpened brass propellor exposed at the rear of the boat spinning at 10s of thousands of RPM at wedding tackle height - wouldn't you want to get it away from you as quick as possible? ;D

i did also notice barry stevens and a cameraman at the OMRA event at weyomuth, so i expect we will see a video or DVD soon, then you can watch the live action in motion !- but the OMRA boys do have a mad way to launch dont they !

Probable would not be to bad a launch for a sub as it would be going under anyway...

Having certain delicate personal items caught between those two props would definitely make your eye's water.   ::)

Are you sure that guy is "launching" the boat, bet its not his....

"Right, you've nicked my frequency peg again for the last time buster!"

Or it could be his and its really slow so he figures if he throws it half way to the finish line... ;D
