Driveway accident re-build
« on: March 16, 2008, 12:46:05 am »

I built a small electric boat in 1982 from an Italian kit I was given by my hobby shop employer in 1971/2. The boat was for my son, he has kept it all these years. He had a big ooops last year needing to remove other stuff from car boot he put it on the path behind the car and promptly forgot it, sometime later shifting the car and backing over the bow.

All but one piece of the of the ABS plastic hull were there. I found a UK ebay site selling a liquid plastic weld, it works well but is not good in aussie summer temps as it evaporates before it softens the plastic, i got around the problem by working at night. the grey triangle in the next pic' shows the piece that was missing with grey styrene welded behind.

There was some warpage due to the nature of the cause of the damage, this was repaired with Automotive filler (bog) all the red paint was removed from the hull with a hobby knife as it hadn't keyed to the ABS, i think it was a spray can enamel job originally, this time i hit it with grey primer followed by Auto acrylic left over from a 1:1 race car build several years ago.
Finished job with a re-install of the vintage Futaba 2 c/h radio  7.2v Nicad pack on a 6v motor with Futaba ESC circa '70's.

My son will pick it up when he visits for easter and his engagement party saturday night, he now lives 1200km away and is using this weekend to collect the last of his stuff.
Woooo hoooo I get my workshop & garage back.
Damien.

Reminds me a boat someone sent me pictures some time ago...... fell off the car while reversing out of the garage.

It was a Sankio Hydrofoil kit.... :'(
