ebay prices
« on: March 29, 2008, 08:54:53 am »

hi everyone
i have recently noticed the prices of ready made boats on ebay have come down a lot since a couple a years ago, is this something to do with this credit crunch ?. every now and then i will look on ebay to see what a good standard boat goes for , i suppose to get a reference if i ever decide to sell one of mine and i have been surprised to see some of them not reaching the kit price. however like most of you , you cant beat building a kit yourself even if its going to cost a lot more. however there are some good bargains to had.

I suspect the problem is that there are a lot more reasonable quality models on the market. eBay makes it easy to sell stuff and so even old codgers who can hardly use a computer see the opportunity to make a bit of money. In one way this is a good thing - boats that would have been dumped now find new owners. On the other hand it feeds into the British opinion that you don't have to pay for peoples time. While I appreciate that we do this mostly for fun - some "modellers" really haggle hard when buying second hand as thought because it isn't new the item must be rubbish.

The other thing is that a lot of people want items picked up and most eBayers are very lazy and want things shipped to them. With a boat this is a real pain as the odds of getting a courier to handle a finescale model and keep it in one piece are pretty slim.

If you want to make money, better go do something else !
