Title: Salvage (recovery) Frame
Post by: B.B on September 04, 2022, 11:07:31 pm
Hi there, played around with this in between my latest build  build, had to do some rescues and sooner or later will do damage to the paint work or worse to the lettering ,backing up to push another model across the lake. It should work on most of my models it hooks over the top of the bulwark (at the rear of the frame) then towards the front has 2 areas with an adjustable hook ,with this idea same to when you actually come alongside a vessel to maneuver it alongside a wharf (or what ever) having more steering control over it...Made from Beech, Cedar ,Venetian blind wood & Alloy knees in the corners.
Photo 1  ...MK-I  design , bench test  on the "Beninda"  2nd photo in action ,but always knew the support arm could be a problem with any over head gear on models ,so back to the drawing board...Photo  3 ...MK-2 design , decided to use a section of Australian Red cedar (nice and light) as a flotation device under the outside frame.Remainder of photo's taken the following model morning tested her out on another model member Mick's army barge, he picked up fishing line around both of his propellers, which is a common problem we have at the lake discarded lines and hooks laying around or thrown into the lake (probably by the same people that protest about the environment) cheers  :-)) .

Hi BB

That was version one, built a second with a wider mouth for the capture end.

Distance, wind and tide are a problem also the old eye sight !!!!!

Morning Canabus, if I had made it from the PVC tubing I was going to have a V section off the bow to give you a bit more lee way when trying to line up a vessel especially at any distance and windage ( may still play around with that idea later on)  cheers  :-)) .
