Any one have any ideas how to construct Cowl Type Ventilators for Steam Tugs?

Pat Matthews did a truncated build up of a pair for his Ford Dearborn tug.

This is the method I use, as described in several of Brian King's books.

A plug is carved to size and a hole is cut in a piece of flat wood for the plug to pass through. Plasticard is pinned on the flat wood, heated up and the plug is pushed through the hole. BK uses boiling water to heat the plasticard - I've tried that and found it too messy, so I use the workshop electric fire.

The cowl produced is then glued to a plastic tube of the appropriate size, filler added where necessary and the whole lot rubbed down.
