I am looking for advice here as I have never put the name of a boat on a hull, my Springer has not got a name and the Graemsey is not finished yet. :'( I have just finished renovating an old hull and it needs the name to finish it. My wife suggests peel offs but these will stand off, can you get water transfers or is there some other type that I can hopefully buy from Smiths.
Don't really know how to go about this, so thought I would ask the experts :)

BECC lettering would seem to be the first port of call....

That was a fast response, only had time to boil the kettle. Had a look at the site, they are vinyl, is this what most people use ?, I think of vinyl as been quite thick, (A bit like me ;D)

Alan,
I have used lettering from a trader advertising on this site, Barry's model lettering, I am happy with the results.

It's very thin and the adhesive is effectively waterproof although you can varnish over it if you want. Gives a very neat result.
-
Its very thin vinyl and sticks well. Doesn't need varnish or anything to stop it coming off.
I used them on my tug,

Not your day Ian see reply 2 O0 {-)

Have a look at my post in Painting Finishing & Care called "Fishing Boat Registrations" - I used Barrys Model Lettering and was very pleased with it. Barrys service is top rate too! Dont worry about the thickness, remember that on many vessels the name letters are steel, cut out and welded to the hull, so they are raised anyway
Best Wishes
