Picked this up from Ebay this week, just thinking about what to make of it, favourite at the moment is a naval patrol boat - gun on the front and missile launcher on the back.
Can anyone help with suggestions for mast etc on top of wheel house?
Also, has anyone used liquid mask? The wheelhouse windows wont come out without breaking, so I need to mask somehow prior to painting.
Next, one for the grey fleet builders, what type of gun might be appropriate? are there kits available at approx 1:40 scale? Same with missile systems?

Does it need all that control gear in the background to run it? WoW! ;)
I've used liquid mask before with some success but you need to be very patient with it.....

Liquid mask is EVILLLLLLL *holds cross up in air in defense*
Goes everywhere, paint always gets under it, and when you next go to use it, it will have turned into very thick sludge.
For your own mental health, don't use it.

I think that liquid mask stuff is just PVA isn't it- the same stuff I use for prepping a GRP mould to stop the resin sticking to the mould.
You could try making some masks from low tack masking tape- the blue stuff, which you can get in homebase etc.

Tamiya masking tape comes in a grey and clear pastic case - bright yellow tape, in two thicknesses. Can be cut to any shape, sticks fast and is easily removed with the tip of a scalpel blade against the corner of the tape. used it for all of my plastic kits and recently to spray the red underneath my Hellcat. About £1.25 when I last bought some. Each roll lasts me between 1 and 5 years. In my life I think I've only had about three rolls of it. Thouroughly reccomend it.

Looks good, what did you use to mask in the end?

I used ordinary masking tape, pushed into the window corners with a bit of wood, then trimmed with a razor blade. Seemed to work ok.

Could you tell me what running gear you have in yours - motor, battery, prop trype and size please.
I ran mine today and it struggled to get onto the foils, so needs more work.

Standard Radio gear, mechanical speed controller, orignal motor or a "standard" 540/550 can't remember.
I did make up an adaptor so I could fit standard M4 plastic props. 7.2v battery. Build light!

It had its first sea trial today using the motor and prop it came with.
It got up on the foils - just! - and not for long, as soon as I put some rudder on, down it went.
I have now fitted a better motor and a plastic 40mm racing prop, and moved the battery from midships to aft, next trials soon.

More trials today, first ran on a pack of 8 sub c cells - went well, got up onto the foils great but has a torque roll to port. Once it started to roll to port it just kept going until it capsized. >>:-( Fortunately, it self righted - usefull things those foils!
Then swapped the batteries over to a 3 cell lipo and it went really well, still had the torque roll and capsize though >>:-(
Guess it needs some ballast.

Yes, I seem to remember that.
I think that's why I switched to a smaller propeller, 35mm.
What propeller are you using?

Ian is it riding to high and not using enough of the foils.
If you look on Google images you will see a majority of hydrofoils do not ride very high out of the water.

I was thinking of reducing the prop size, currently 40mm to maybe 35.
And, it does ride quite high, especially on the lipo battery, less so on the nimh. I have a higher revving motor on order from the ACTion man that I will try with a smaller prop and maybe run it on the nimh. More testing to come!

Sounds to me like the centre of gravity is too high.
So do everything you can to reduce top weight, and get any weight as low in the hull as possible.

I sounds like it's just going too fast for the foil angle.
Have you freed up the foil mounting points? They are adjustable.
I have the whole manual if you need it.....

Not tried foil adjustment yet, the adjustment bolts are free enough so it wont be a problem.
Does the manual give any info on the effect and direction of adjustment?
