I Found at my local friendly fishing tackle shop a tool called a "Latch Hook Bait Threader" About the size of a very small screw driver it looks a bit like a small crochet needle with a safety latch to stop it from snagging then you pull it out..it's brilliant for reeving that awkward thread of picking up that bit of wire that's got it's self in a corner where can't get your fingers and great to use like a fid for splicing small laid rigging thread.

In Reply to your Question
I sew dummy buntlines and clew lines on the sail when I make them, these are just for looks.... however the Jackline reefing pendents are part of the working rig and are frequently used to reduce sail if the wind is a bit stiff each square sail has 2 or 3 jackline reefing points as do the gaff main on the brigantine and the main and the foresail on the topsail schooner.... this allows me to sail in winds up to Force 5 or 6 and once in a wind gusting to 7 but that was a bit hairy
