with August bank holiday here again, it is time for the two bank holiday shows to get underway, one at Birchwood, the other at EPIC, less than 1km away from the old venue. I have hosted my pics on RC Groups, rather than here, however I am posting a link to it from here.
Politics aside, so lets not have the debarkle of last year, lets concentrate on the shows that we have had, and what we have all got upto. with the weather being typical bank holiday, sometimes I am glad that we had a swimming pool to play in, it sure made Paul Brassington's submarine a LOT easier to retrive after its radio packed in and the sub went on strike. GLUG GLLUG GLUG... "oh c**k" or words to that effect. made photographing it a lot easier as well.

Brilliant and thanks for that.....This is a show I really do miss since living in the sunshine...

...Hi Guys...
There are about a dozen of us Jocksters heading down Tomorrow Morning for Ellesmere Port Show opening at 10am then back up to The Birchwood Show in the Afternoon...
We are all looking forward to the day...See You all There or There...
P.S....
There are 2 GRP Springer Hulls coming down with us looking for a new home...£20.00 each...First 2 people to shove a £20 note into my hand can be their new owners...
Or if you want to order one of them, Call me on 07774 700 614...
...Best Regards From Bonnie Scotland...Norry...

I attended both shows today.
Just don't understand why they cannot get together and have one venue
They are serving no one properly, club exhibitors, trade or Joe public.
Maybe ACAS should be involved O0

Hello funtimefrankie ,
Be very careful saying things like that !, I did, and my post got deleted.

Steady guys.
Let us try and keep the input positive.
Mark :) :) :)

a'hem, no politics or bickering please,
Politics aside, so lets not have the debarkle of last year, lets concentrate on the shows that we have had, and what we have all got upto
lets keep it down to what we got up to please :)

Well as I said, ;) I went to both shows, yesterday.
The Epic was OK with better trade attendance, bought a few items from Action and others, then on m' bike down the road to Birchwood, only twenty minutes or so on a good Triumph ;D.
This was better attended by clubs, nicer place, with a good lake for boat demos, not so many traders, I thought. but unless there's more space in another room you would get much more in!
Still think someone should knock their heads together and have one show,
Southport Floral Hall would be ideal.
(Constuctive but not too political ?? O0)
-
well epic seemed quiet, that was on the down side, I would have liked more activity in the pool as well

...Hi Guys...
We spent the Morning at Ellesmere Port & the Afternoon at Birchwood as planned...
On the way back home to Glasgow with probably about £1,000. worth of purchases between us, we were discussing the days events & all 9 of us agreed on the days findings...There is no need for 2 shows on the same day...
I said this last year following the same trip to both shows & I am going to say it again this year...(Even if it does upset some people) because we feel quite strongly that something has to be sorted out soon...
" Get your heads together guys...(Organisers, Modellers & Traders at both shows) and get one bigger & better show sorted out for next year...Let Common Sense Prevail, Or at least, Listen to your customers opinions...

Am I the only one who finds it infuriating when someone posts a report on an event, only to find it's a link to yet another website?
Why can't you just duplicate the post on here? If I wanted to visit another site I would, but this is my preferred "home"...
Okay, rant over....

Yes, that's almost rude. :(

Eddy, Have you ever tried uploading nearly 100 photos to the Mayhem Forum, I think not.
I think I'm right that they can be bulk uploaded to RC groups but not the forum.
Ghosty gave up all of his weekend to exhibit at the show (travelling up there on Friday night) and within a couple of hours of returning home he'd got the report on the internet, ok so its on another site but its "only one click away" and then one more click of the mouse to return to your beloved "preferred" page.
This wasn't done for Ghosty's benefit but for everyone else's.
Thanks for going to the time and trouble to post the link to your report Ghost and if you find where Eddy has posted his report then can you let me know Ghost as I cant find it anywhere. :-\ :-\ :-\
Here's Ghost's Link again for those you don't mind 2 extra clicks ;) ;)

...Hi Guys...( Just give me a minute to get my other foot onto this soapbox)...Right here we go...
Am I the only one who finds it infuriating when a thread subject is changed halfway through it...
This thread is called Epic Show report...I posted what me & my mates thought of the show & we are looking out for the thoughts of other members who visited both shows...Lets keep the threads on course guys...
"Could someone help me down, this box is higher than i thought"

Thanks Ghost,
for going the extra mile and taking the time and effort to post a report and photographs for the modelling community to enjoy.

Thanks Ghost, Fantastic set of pic's. I don' t have access to any shows at all here in OZ so it's great to see what other modellers across the pond have to display.
Much appreciated no probs for me to click a link, i'm a member at RC groups and others but mayhem is home.
Cheers Damien.

All long as they are somewhere I guess....

True.. maybe it's just because I hate the slow & cumbersome gallery interface on
arseygroups [Moderated] rcgroups!
4 clicks per photo, Grrrrrrr! >>:-(
Martin seems to have that nailed here on Mayhem.

thanks guys.
just that where I was staying, the laptop I was borrowing didnt have a graphics program like microsoft picture editor easily to hand in the menu's and I wasn't going to poke around someone else's lap top

If the system has worked, here is Stavros relaxing after a hard day exhibiting.
If it hasn't you'll just have to believe me. :)

so thats the grunting I could hear in the swimming pool, stavros snoring!

Max size 128Kb per photo
Max dimentions 640 by 480
Max 2meg per post.

That's not our Ghosty, no Stoke on Trent camouflage jacket! ;)

no Stoke on Trent camouflage jacket! ;)
I wish some beggar would camouflage Stoke. We've passed through it four times in the last week and it gets no better with time or familiarity.

Just to add to this thread, rather than going in another direction as so easily seems to happen!.
I have attended both Epic and Birchwood both this year and last. I am aware of the reasons that Epic is used rather than the Boat Museum but, since that move, Epic has gone downhill and will probably continue to do so. Why is Birchwood better/ I think it is mainly down to the venue. Anyone who wanted a cup of tea at the Epic had to * moderated * whereas Birchwood was very clean light and friendly. The area of the show itself is the same, Epic * moderated *, Birchwood light and cheerful. I think this also rubs off on the exhibitors. Nobody from the exhibitors seemed to want to know you at the Epic but they were all very friendly and talkative at Birchwood. When it come to sailing there is no comparison At the Epic there was a lone person sailing in the pool, plus the obligatory lifeguard being paid by the Council, when nobody is allowed in the pool!!!!, whilst at Birchwood there was alovely lake plus a childrens area and tanks on the grass as an added attraction. Having said all that, there was nothing wrong with the trade stands at either venue apart from one area at Epic where there were some bare tables * moderated * and a notice saying "model mayhem". What was that all about?
It is obvious to anyone that the two shows should eithe get together or have different dates, but whatever happens the Ellesmere Port show will always be poor if it stays at the * moderated * Epic.
I live in new Brighton and have to pass the Epic to get to Birchwood so by nature I should be an Epic supporter. I would like to be but sorry, the place is * moderated * and I am sorry for the organisers.
Cheers, John

I went to both shows, I was at Epic at the start, 10.00 am on the sat, and Birchwood by 1.30pm. Didnt know that the swimming pool was going to be used, did I miss the announcements on this?, would have liked to have seen it
The tanks where entertaining at Birchwood, what about those 2 HUGE tanks made by a guy from Southport model boat club? The afternoon was sunny, so it was nice to see outdoor sailing, and the kids steering comp was good, I thoght something like that was going to happen at Epic?
Whilst I would like to see one show, I would prefer the 2 shows on the same date, they are only 1/2 hour apart, so you are able to get to both. If they where on different weekends, then work commitments would mean choosing one or another, surely from the traders point of view you are diluting your audience/customers with a clash of dates?
PS... did anyone get a photo of that large centurian tank?
Thanks
-

look under birchwood show , ;) ;)

>>:-( Well it had to come to a head at some time I have know doubt that this thread will be moderated or deleted but I think that like many others we are entitled to free speech providing we don't condemn or condone anyone by name or implication.
I was fortunit to be able to visit both the EPIC & BIRCHWOOD firstly my visit to the Epic was on the Saturday at around about 11.30 upon walking into the hall expecting it to be quite full only to find it almost empty only a few traders and even less club stands by the look on the traders faces they were praying for a coach full of people to pull up at the door at any moment sadly the hall had a gloomy feel about it.
Next was my visit to Birchwood on sunday lunch time my first impresion was a well organised show packed to the brim with visitors about the same amount of traders and a lot more club stands a nice airy room and a happy atmosphere people sitting out side enjoying a chat many boats sailing in the lake.all to gether a happier place to be.
I have tried to give my honest description of both shows without condemning or condoning anyone but as predicted a few years a go there would only be one winner in the battle of two shows and at the moment it looks like Birchwood have the lead P.S. I have no connection with any one connected to either of these shows just a Innocent by stander how loved going to the boat museum a good atmosphere lots of models & lots of trade stands a good time had by all , so there you go moderaters do your bit.

***Topic now split***
Please keep this thread on topic of talk about the Epic show.

Several points...
Thanks to Ghosty for posting some pics from the show...
It doesnt matter where they are out on the internet, as long as they are 'there'. At least they are out there somewhere in internet land so that those of us that were unable to attend are able to view some of the models / products.
There are those of us out here that are bereft of model shows. There are three that i know of on the West Coast of the US, the nearest being 4 hours away, the furthest a 20 hour drive... yes, i said "20 Hours". These 'trade shows tend to be car / plane orientated and have very little in the way of model boats... To my knowledge there isnt a model boat show on the West Coast of the US...
The Toledo show, the biggest in the US, is... by the way.. 2,354 miles – about 1 day 10 hours drive away!...
So, to find you have TWO shows dealing with model boats within an hours drive of each other is rather :o >>:-( to some of us.... Just think yourselves lucky!.
-
Excellent points Toesupwa !
-
Agreed..... but please let us know via the forum whether the show is worth the round trip or not?
I have earlier this year made a 300 mile round trip twice to a show or open day that promised certain trade stands and club stands that were not there!!
I am happy to support any show or club open day as long as they are honest with their programme (and advise via the forum if circumstances change as I often travel long distances to shows etc)
As for the censorship I notice that some of the more outspoken at the beginning have stopped posting, I believe because they had their own agendas, (I have been a member since this forum started, and have been moderated once or twice (not for proliferation I might add) but don't feel the need to post every 4 mins or so). I hate the thought of a clique developing, and recent steps seem to have stopped this from happening. I would drop this forum like a stone if that happened, although, I would still use it for reference.
I am not the best model maker in the world, and appreciate the information I can glean from this forum. please don't let it be hijacked on personal grounds, but if somethings not right let us know.

Hi there Toesupwa nice to here from someone from across the pond it may sound good that there is two shows within miles of each other on the same dates,But these two shows used to be under one roof at the boat museum and people traveled from both ends of the country plus the isle of man to visit this show and you could spend two days visiting the trade stands plus model boats and there was aways some event going on out side,Along with museum diplays as-well,Unfortunately due to some history of witch it is best not to speak of there is now two shows which some people either cant afford or haven't got the time to visit both, This is why I gave my honest opinion of both shows i visited which was the origanal thread ( EPIC SHOW REPORT ) hope this makes it bit clearer for you .
All the best and happy boating.
-
But these two shows used to be under one roof at the boat museum .
Sorry but that is not true, the people that run the Birchwood show are the people that ran the BOAT MUSEUM show, due to expantion of displays at the Museum there was less space, also the price was going up to £ 7.00 to get in.
The Commitee had to find a new home, and BIRCHWOOD was found, the first year they could not get the bank holiday because it was booked up, it was free the following year so they booked it.
I was on the commitee for the first 11 years, we ran one of the best shows in the country. RH

has anyone else taken photos at the EPIC event???
Anyway the thread wasn't about as to where the report has been placed, as I could have just as easily found my Virgin.net webspace and shoved it there or blog.whatever.didellysquat, AND YOU WOULD STILL MOAN!, just be thankful I took the pics in the first place!
now if anyone else has posted pics, please put them up, there was more than me with a camera at the event!
oh guys, can we steer clear of epic vs birchwood talk please, we dont want the debarkle of last year with all the infighting. please?
-
Some good pics there Ghost.

Stravros took a load of photos at the Epic, I'll pick them up tommorrow at
Calnberris! Lanberis.... O0

Sorry must correct my self i should have said the traders and clubs that are under two roofs used to be under one roof and i had the greatest of respect for the members that organised the museum event as for the cost how much does it cost to visit two shows, Sorry Ron all i did in the first place was to report what i seen at the two shows.

You are quite right Towmaster, In the early days we had over 30 clubs, and 30 traders, it droped a little bit as the museum put in new displays, as for the money you are again right, two shows cost £7-00, but there is no were that can hold that number now in the area , unless they have very limited space.

...I'll pick them up tommorrow at Calnberris! Lanberis.... O0
Now come along, old chip... you know that every Welsh word should be prounced as though spoken through a mouthful of phleghm. That's why they have millions of 'L's in their spellings. (I shan't let on to anyone that you spelt Llanberis with just one). :-X
Have a great weekend, chaps.
(Heaps of photos, please!)

Ron1
In all of the years that we attended the shows at the Ellesmere Port Boat Museum, we always dealt directly with the Museum itself (Christine Parker) with regards to space allocation, stand fees etc.
To be honest, we weren't even aware that there WAS a Committee, other than that Keith Crabtree was a member of one, until the Boat Museum shows were a thing of the past and you guys started the shows at Birchwood.
Did the Committee ever actually have any authority/remit as far as the traders at the Boat Museum was concerned, or was it just to organise the clubs? It's a new one on me if they did?
